Cardi B Says Offset Divorce Stalled Over Money And Property Demands
Cardi B is setting the record straight about why her divorce from Offset isn’t final yet and according to her, it has nothing to do with love. The rapper, 32, hopped on X Spaces on September 22, and explained that the delay comes down to money and property, not emotions.
“The only reason why I’m still married is because somebody wants me to pay for their taxes,” Cardi said, alluding to her estranged husband. “Y’all wanna know the tea? The only way I can get out of my marriage is if I pay for somebody else’s taxes, even though I pay for my own, and give them one of my properties. I’mma fight for that. This is not no love s—. I’m not gonna stop living my life.”
She made it clear that she and Offset, 33, are “legally separated,” but technically still tied by contract. “On a contract, I’m practically still married, because somebody [wants to] hold me hostage if I don’t give them millions of dollars to get out of it,” she told fans.
Cardi and Offset first tied the knot in 2017, and their relationship has been turbulent ever since. She filed for divorce once in 2020 and again in 2024. In May, TMZ reported that Offset updated his divorce response, requesting spousal support and joint custody of their three kids, 7-year-old Kulture, 4-year-old Wave and 1-year-old Blossom.
The livestream came just days after Cardi revealed she is pregnant with her fourth child, her first with boyfriend and NFL star Stefon Diggs. Critics were quick to question the timing, but Cardi brushed off the chatter. “I have three kids with one man that I married. Yes, I’m having a baby with somebody else. So what? That happens, it’s life,” she said.
She also defended her choices by reminding fans of her past. “Let me tell you something — I did things the correct way the first time. I fell in love. I got two rings [on] my finger. I lasted seven years, seven years that I didn’t have to last with somebody. I lasted seven years in a marriage.”
When Billboard asked earlier this month if she saw a lasting friendship with Offset after their split, Cardi briefly replied that she “tried.”
