Yellowstone Prequel Changes Name and Focus Towards the Prohibition Era
Paramount+ has recently announced that the series to follow 1883 will now be called 1923 instead of 1932. Instead of diving deep into the Great Depression, the series will now focus on the end of World War I in 1918 and the start of the Prohibition Era in 1920.
What will 1923 be about?
1923 will focus on the Dutton family trying to survive during harsh conditions ranging from major droughts to a mysterious and damaging continuous cattle theft. The after effects of World War I have been said to be woven into the storyline as well, so one can guess that there may be some dark content featured in this series. This western cowboy series will take place in Montana during the early 1920s. The lack of law will also play a major part in the family’s struggles. Montana also had a great depression almost a decade before the nation’s during this time period.
Who will star in 1923?
Helen Mirren, known for her detective role in the television series Prime Suspect and her acting as Elizabeth II in The Queen, will be one of the leads starring in this series. Indiana Jones lead Harrison Ford will be starring as well. The specific roles for each of these megastars has yet to be announced.
Creator Taylor Sheridan heads the major writing portions for this show, and is known for his talented work with western film. It can be difficult to capture the pure grit and energy surrounding life in the Wild West, yet Sheridan manages to accomplish the time period’s true nature in writing every time. Taylor Sheridan has had experience writing westerns like Hell or High Water and Sicario, which have both received high praise.
With both Yellowstone and 1883 featuring 10 episodes each season, we can hope for a full season coming soon. Each spin-off builds onto the Yellowstone story, which leads to a universe that viewers can easily fall into.
Another show titled 6666 will be coming to Paramount+ as well. Pronounced “Four Sixes”, the story will take place on the already known ranch in Texas, where the history of the property will be explored throughout the series. Once both series are out, there will be time to spot the connections and underlying plots drawing the two into the Yellowstone universe. Official dates for these new series have yet to be announced.
