Selena Turns 30! Celebrates With Long-Time BFF Taylor Swift
“Same Old Love” singer Selena Gomez took to Instagram to share pictures of her 30th birthday celebration with singer, actress, and producer Taylor Swift. The two besties posed for the camera as Taylor held up her hand in a 3 and 0 pointing at her bestie’s age and making a shocked expression as they huddled together. Selena captioned the post “30, nerdy and worthy.”
Soon after, the comment box was filled with Taylena fans appreciating and celebrating their iconic friendship which has spanned 14 years and is strong as ever. Comments with sentiments like “TAYLENA STANS RISE,” “Icons, queens, lovers, everything, and more”, and “Long live Taylena” abounded.
Selena looked angelic in her white mini dress; her hair was tied in a messy bun with a few strands framing her face. Taylor, on the other hand, wore a brown dress and styled her hair in cute braids.
Over the years, we’ve witnessed many moments that captured the epic Taylena friendship. Selena opened up about how they met in an interview with KISS UK in 2017. She said, “We actually dated the Jonas brothers together! It was hysterical. It was amazing because she was the girl with the big curly hair and all the bracelets and the cowboy boots. And I was definitely up-and-coming, and we just clicked.”
“It was the best thing we got out of those relationships,” she added. Her comment referenced how Selena was dating Nick Jonas while Taylor was with Joe Jonas when they met.
Since then, the pair has been seen hanging out together, supporting each other’s careers, standing up for each other, and being each other’s biggest cheerleaders. Indeed, all those who claim that two women in the same profession can never be true friends should definitely give Taylena a look.
In an interview with Seventeen in 2009, Selena mentioned how she often turned to her friend for dating advice. “Every single problem I ever have is healable by Taylor Swift. If I ever have an issue, Taylor has gone through it, because she’s older than me, and she gives the most thought-out answers. And what I love about Taylor is that she does believe in the whole love story and Prince Charming and soul mates. Because of her, I haven’t lost faith. We literally talk every day.”
In 2014, Taylor explained how their friendship is one of the longest bonds they’ve both had. She said, “Both of us have kind of stuck it out and hung in there through all the different changes we’ve gone through. Longevity is something you really can find very precious and rare in friendships.”
During Swift’s Reputation tour, the pair performed “Hands to Myself” together. Selena shared a few pictures on social media with the caption, “I’m grateful for those I surround myself with. And this woman right here happens to be one of my favorites. Love our tradition and I love you.”
Taylor was there to support Selena when she was going through a bad patch after her breakup with Justin. Selena stood strong by Taylor’s side when Justin’s manager acquired the rights to Taylor’s music catalog. They have stuck with each other through thick and thin, giving us major friendship goals.
