Kylie Slammed for Boasting About Her Private Jet
This isn’t the first time we see the Kardashian-Jenner siblings showing off their immense wealth. Famous for their reality TV show, they’ve been known to flaunt their family drama and luxurious lifestyles.
Last July 15, the Kylie Cosmetics founder posted a photo on Instagram with her daughter Stormi and boyfriend Travis Scott, an American rapper and music producer. The incendiary post showed the couple and Stormi hugging each. In the background, two private jets and a Rolls Royce could be seen, yet again exhibiting the family’s extreme affluence. Adding to the ostentatiousness of the post was the caption, “Do you want to take mine or yours?”
Netizens were understandably angered and shocked by the post. It received serious backlash with comments like “Maybe take neither and reduce your carbon footprint,” “But what about combating climate change?” and “This display of wealth is unbelievable, so detached from the common person’s struggles.”
Twitter users likewise slammed the businesswoman for being a “full-time climate criminal.” A user on Twitter wrote, “Can’t wait to see Kylie Jenner post environmental awareness pics on her stories as if she isn’t single-handedly doing more damage to the environment than most of us with her three-minute flights,” “Why do I have to limit my meat consumption and use paper straws while the 1 percent gets to pump tons of carbon into the atmosphere for a day trip to Palm Springs?” said another.
According to Page Six, Kylie bought her custom private jet in 2020 for $70 million. It comes with a master suite and designer blankets on each seat.
Some users dug deeper into her literally jet-setting lifestyle. They discovered that Kylie has used her private jet to reach places that are a forty-minute drive away. Some of her flights were as short as three minutes. This only fuelled the internet’s righteous indignation. People were quick to state that they’ve made lifestyle changes to help save the environment while celebrities like Kylie are singlehandedly doing more damage.
Similar outrageous instances occurred in the past when the Kardashian-Jenner siblings received backlash for showing off their wealth and careless approach to life. In 2019, Kylie found herself in a similar predicament when she used her jet to pick up younger sister Kendall for a casual dinner together. She has also been criticized for showing off her massive collection of luxurious vehicles on Tiktok.
While appalling, these incidents aren’t too surprising since the family is so detached from everyday life due to their immense wealth. One episode in their reality show, The Kardashians, featured Kylie and her mom Kris going to the supermarket to buy groceries. The two were filmed feeling giddy the entire time as they savored the novel experience. In another episode, Kendall was struggling to cut her own cucumber which implied her privileged upbringing. Both episodes left some viewers feeling uncomfortable and shocked.
There’s nothing wrong with boasting about one’s wealth. But doing so when the world is on the brink of an economic crisis and climate change is at a critical juncture, has to be even the tiniest bit insensitive and tasteless.
