Olivia Wilde Enjoys Minor Victory in Intense Custody Battle With Jason Sudeikis
After quietly parting ways in 2020, Olivia Wilde scored a minor victory in her custody hearings with former partner Jason Sudeikis. During their ten-year relationship, the two Hollywood actors shared two children: eight-year-old Otis and five-year-old Daisy.
They’re now in the middle of a messy custody battle for their two children, however, Olivia scored a minor win last July when it was announced that the case will continue in California where Olivia and her children currently reside.
The decision was made by the two presiding judges over a Zoom conference call. It entailed rejecting a petition by Jason to continue proceedings in New York where he lives. This recent development means that it will be much more convenient for Olivia and her kids to be present for court dates and appearances.
Documents show that just a few hours before the aforementioned hearing, Wilde had also filed a legal petition to dismiss Sudeikis’ custody case altogether.
Adding to the public’s interest is the fact that Olivia was publicly humiliated by her ex a few months ago. During her CinemaCon speech for her upcoming film Don’t Worry Darling, Olivia was served with court documents.
The actress obviously didn’t know what was happening when she was unceremoniously interrupted mid-speech by a member of the audience and handed a Manila envelope. Despite the sudden interruption, she took the envelope, scanned its contents, and calmly resumed her presentation.
Audiences were at first mystified and later horrified to learn that she was given custody papers from Sudeikis. She later explained the incident by saying, “Jason’s actions were clearly intended to threaten me and catch me off-guard. He could have served me discreetly, but instead he chose to serve me in the most aggressive manner possible.”
“The fact that Jason would embarrass me professionally and put our personal conflict on public display in this manner is extremely contrary to our children’s best interests. Since Jason has made it clear that we will not be able to work this out for our children’s sake outside of the court system, I filed a petition for custody in Los Angeles,” she concluded.
Jason later expressed regret about the way the papers were served. He cited not being able to pin her exact location as the reason for serving her the document in that manner: “I understand that the process server had only done her job, however, I deeply regret what happened. Olivia’s talk was an important event for Olivia, both professionally and personally, and I am very, very sorry that the incident marred her special moment.”
He added that he didn’t know where she would be since she was either with her boyfriend Harry Styles in London or in her Las Vegas hotel room.
The custody battle comes after two years of trying to co-parent the children, and arguments over where they would be raised permanently. However it’s resolved, we hope that the two former lovers will be able to settle things privately and tastefully for the sake of their children.
