Alec Baldwin To Face Criminal Charges Over The Fatal Shooting Of Halyna Hutchins
Alec Baldwin is not at all pleased, and the worry was all etched on his face when he answered a call last Monday. This was just hours after finding out that a New Mexico prosecutor was looking into filing criminal charges against him.
The charges are all associated with the accidental but fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Alec claimed that he was only following Halyna’s instructions to point the gun at her and pull the trigger. And he did pull the trigger—on a loaded gun.
Despite what happened, Alec persuaded the entire team to finish filming the movie in memory of Halyna with the intent that all proceeds gained from the film be given to the woman’s widower and 9-year-old son.
After a happy weekend where he and his wife Hilaria welcomed their eighth child together and had a stroll with their children along the East River near the Williamsburg Bridge came this perturbing news.
Santa Fe District Attorney, Mary Carmack-Altwies, stated in a letter to the state’s financial board that she was prepared to file charges against four people. She didn’t confirm what these charges were, but she was certainly looking at all possible homicide and gun statutes under the criminal code of New Mexico.
Furthermore, in her letter, she specified that one of the probable defendants was the well-known actor Alec Baldwin and that there could be four independent criminal trials.
This is definitely good news for the Hutchins family, who are more than willing to pursue a wrongful death suit against Alec. The family agrees with the judge that the actor was principally responsible for firing the ill-fated shot that killed the cinematographer in New Mexico during the filming of the movie Rust last October.
During these latest updates, Alec placed his $29-million estate on Long Island on the market. This is considered his most significant asset. Many legal observers see this move as Alec’s effort to shift and protect his assets from the impending lawsuits that will cost him a massive amount of money.
The listing is not entirely a lifestyle change but a strategy in preparation for the potential massive problems in the court. In 1996, Alec purchased his Long Island estate for a mere $1.75-million, but last week, his asking price for the property was 16 times more than his initial cash-out.
This may be the actor’s way of looking for ways to transfer his wealth to his immediate family. He seems to be doing this in the form of protected assets like irrevocable trusts for his children or purchasing properties in other states to protect them from creditors.
These speculations can be proven partly true. This is the direction that Alec is headed in when he starts looking and possibly buying anything in Florida because this state has special homestead protection.
What is going on right now with Alec and the recent changes—like selling his house on Oneida Lake in upstate New York for $530,000 and then purchasing a $1.75-million farm in Vermont—means that something is up due to the movement in his finances.
The sister of the deceased Marine, whom Alec referred to as an “insurrectionist” because she took selfies in Washington, has also filed a $25 million defamation case, so this lawsuit is not the only one that Alec is facing. U.S. Marine Rylee J. McCollum’s sister and lawyer even cracked a joke that she hopes Alec is selling his assets so he can pay them.
Alec is racking up some hefty legal bills after tapping into top-flight lawyers to help with his lawsuits, and money doesn’t seem to be a problem for him, given his prestigious career of 40 years. Still, everyone’s skeptical and almost excited about what he plans with all these recent changes.
