Howard Stern Compares Kanye West to Hitler
After Kanye West’s recent rampage of racism and anti-Semitism, Howard Stern says it’s time for people to stop making excuses for West’s hatred.
West’s Instagram account has been suspended for the time being due to his anti-Semitic comments and hate speech, to which his first response was tweeting a photo of himself and Mark Zuckerberg, saying, “Look at this Mark. How you gone kick me off Instagram?” Soon after, he posted another tweet that reads, “Who you think created cancel culture?”
It seems that he is, unsurprisingly, trying to place blame on others. The rapper’s Instagram account was suspended after he posted a screenshot of a text conversation between him and P. Diddy. The topic was everything Kanye has gotten himself into, where Diddy asks West to “stop playing these internet games,” to which West replied, “This ain’t a game. Ima use you as an example to show the Jewish people that told you to call me that no one can threaten or influence me.”
After West told Piers Morgan that he is “absolutely not” sorry for his disrespect (to which the host replied “you should be”), Howard Stern took to his own show on SiriusXM to voice his feelings about the rapper. “You gotta hear the sh-t this guy’s into. Kanye used to be fun crazy, now he’s like Hitler crazy.” Stern also said, “I’m really tired of people excusing his behavior by saying, ‘well he’s just mentally ill.’”
Ye has some very clear mental issues, and Stern, along with many others, don’t believe that that’s a reason to spread so much hatred for minorities. Ari Emanuel, a media executive, made the point that “Some of West’s behavior has been dismissed over time, citing mental illness, given that he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder after being hospitalized in 2016,” he wrote in a piece for the Financial Times.
“However, mental illness is not an excuse for racism, hatred, or anti-Semitism. Millions of people affected by mental illness do not perpetuate hateful ideologies. Others brush off his comments as just words, but hateful words far too easily become hateful actions.” Emanuel then asks of companies who are still involved with the rapper to cut ties with him, “no matter how much money is at stake.”
West seems to be in the midst of a mental health crisis, but Stern and Emanuel are right; people let it slide for so long that it may have led him to think he can get away with anything and his fans would still support him. West’s refusal to get treatment for his disorder even played a part in the end of his marriage to Kim Kardashian.
This time, fans aren’t coming to his defense the way they used to. In fact, many fans who have been there for him since the beginning are tired of supporting someone whose morals are so backwards. It doesn’t seem like Kanye will be changing his ways or apologizing any time soon, but the crowd of people who support him is getting smaller and smaller.
