James Corden Isn’t Sorry About Restaurant Drama
After causing a scene in NYC restaurant Balthazar, the owner of which took to Instagram to detail his experiences with Corden, the talk show host now says he doesn’t feel that he did anything wrong.
The restaurant owner, Keith McNally told TMZ, “I have no wish to kick a man when he’s down, but I believe the best way for James Corden to retrieve some of the vast respect the public had for him before this incident is to own up to it and apologize to the young servers he’s abused. If he’s big enough to do that, he can eat free at Balthazar for the rest of the year.”
After McNally publicly banned Corden from his restaurant and accused him of being incredibly rude to staff, calling him the “most abusive customer” his restaurant had ever seen, Corden reportedly called McNally to apologize profusely. McNally also made a follow-up post saying that he feels really guilty about the whole thing, and wonders if he overreacted, even though Corden was in the wrong here. “On the one hand, he was definitely abusive to my staff, on the other hand, I feel really sorry for him right now,” the post reads.
Despite his alleged apology, Corden is now saying that he doesn’t think he did anything wrong. “I haven’t done anything wrong, on any level. So why would I cancel this? I was there. I get it,” The Late Late Show said to the New York Times. He also said that he feels “zen” about it. “I think it’s so silly. I just think it’s beneath all of us. It’s beneath you. It’s certainly beneath your publication.”
He also added that he hasn’t read much about what the restaurant owner has been saying about him on social media, but that he may talk about it on his show. “I think I’m probably going to have to talk about it on Monday’s show,” he said in the same interview with the New York Times, “My feeling often is, never explain, never complain. But I’ll probably have to talk about it.”
It wouldn’t have been so hard for the talk show host to say that he was having a rough day (as celebrities often do when they’re called out for rude behavior). Instead he did the exact opposite.
There are two sides to every story, but it’s definitely going to be interesting to see how Corden continues to handle his situation, with the combination of taking back his apology and various other allegations in the past that he’s just not a very kind person.
