Selma Blair Bids Adieu to Dancing With the Stars
Selma Blair waved goodbye to Dancing With the Stars and ended her journey with a perfect score.
The American actress announced that she would be withdrawing from the competition primarily due to health reasons. She performed one last time during Monday’s episode, captivating everyone with her grace on the dance floor and immense willpower.
Everybody knows that Selma Blair has an ongoing battle with multiple sclerosis. The actress shared this news in 2018 and made sure that her 38-years-old dancing partner, Sasha Farber, was aware of her decision. Blair could be seen confiding in Sasha during one of the rehearsals in a pre-taped episode.
The 50-year old actress shared that she has been in constant communication with her doctor throughout the entire season, and was being monitored closely. However, her recent MRIs revealed that Selma can’t go on anymore.
Selma further explained that with her chronic illness, she needs to listen to her body. The pressure of the dancing show has taken a toll on her body and the constant movements are too much for the actress’ bones.
The Hellboy star further revealed that she’s been suffering from inflammation and intensive bone trauma with tears and rips that she doesn’t want to escalate further.
During the show’s Most Memorable Year episode, Selma detailed that her most memorable year was 2018 when she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
Selma told Sasha how sick she had been for so long, and how she kept on searching for different ways to make herself feel better. And when finally, everything became clearer that all the pain and discomfort was due to MS, the actress admitted that she could live again. The diagnosis provided her with relief and a feasible reality.
Sasha, an Australian-American professional dancer was supportive of Selma’s decision to withdraw from the competition.
Selma cried before taking the stage with Sasha, and together, they did their final waltz to the tune of What the World Needs Now is Love. This farewell dance was so genuine and heartbreaking that even the judges were moved to tears.
The judges all had their turn commending Selma, with head judge Len Goodman conceding that the competition was challenging for everyone. Still, Selma has climbed mountains just by being there and dancing beautifully on the stage.
The 66-years-old Bruno Tonioli also had nothing but good words for the emotional Selma, stating that it was a privilege to know her and that her participation in Dancing with the Stars was an inspiration to many. Co-judge Carrie Ann Inaba couldn’t agree more with Bruno’s feedback, adding that the actress spread awareness about people suffering from chronic pain.
Before the start of the competition, Selma was supposedly about to be on complete bed rest.
For her and Sasha’s last dance, they were given a perfect score by the judges. Selma’s perseverance and strength were appreciated by everyone in the show as they gathered around the emotional actress, hugging her son and saying their goodbyes.
For that episode, co-host Tyra Banks announced that with Selma withdrawing from the competition, everybody else is safe, and no one will be sent home.
