Surprise Endorsement From Oprah Winfrey: It’s John Fetterman And Not Dr. Oz For The Queen Of Talk
Getting support and endorsement from Oprah is a big deal. It can significantly impact any candidate’s number of supporters.
And last Thursday night, Oprah Winfrey announced that she would support John Fetterman’s bid to get a seat in the Senate. This is a huge surprise as the other candidate is the Turkish-American surgeon Dr. Mehmet Oz. Yes, the doctor Oprah made a household name after he made several appearances on her show. Oprah also appeared as a guest on Dr. Oz’s show.
Overall, Oprah and Dr. Oz have been on set together for roughly 20 years, and this long association should have sufficed for them to build a strong bond to support the other even in a political bid.
Unfortunately, with the neck-to-neck battle between the surgeon and the current lieutenant governor of Pennsylvania, Oprah was vocal about who she supports. Last Thursday, the 68-year-old media mogul made it official when she announced that she would not support her former guest.
Oprah was clear on where she stands, stating that even at the start of the midterm campaigns, she was keen on voting for someone who could represent the citizens. She further said that if she were a resident of Pennsylvania, then she would be casting her vote in favor of John Fetterman.
She further encouraged the voters to choose their candidates wisely and to use their discernment so they could preserve the democracy of the country.
Of course, Fetterman received this endorsement with delight, and he even tweeted a response welcoming Oprah to his team.
Oprah’s democratic support is nothing new, but the widely publicized endorsement would be a blow to Dr. Oz, given their history.
The two met in 2003 when Dr. Oz and his wife, Lisa, developed a medical series entitled Second Opinion with Dr. Oz. The show was on Discovery Channel.
Oprah shared that she was Dr. Oz’s first guest, which all happened thanks to her friend Gayle, who encouraged her to be the show’s first guest in 2011. And it was a good move because after the show and meeting Dr. Oz, Oprah recognized that the cardiac surgeon was kind and genuine in transforming other people’s lives just like he was in mending their broken hearts, literally.
The television producer invited the doctor to her show in 2004, and this guesting happened over 60 times as the years passed. And having the doctor on the show was always educating and inspiring. Dr. Oz saved many lives because more people became adept at recognizing symptoms and changing their lifestyles into healthier ones.
Oprah also credits Dr. Oz for her new love for lower heels and says that her bunions will forever be grateful to the medical advice that the doctor was always willing to share. It appears that all good times end, and this time, with Oprah clearly not extending her political support to the doctor.
