Taylor Swift’s Midnights Dominates the Billboards
Taylor Swift’s new album Midnights has been worth the wait as it has gone on to secure the #1 spot on the much-coveted Billboard 200 list. The album has stayed consistently on the top of the chats for two weeks in a row now.
This is Swift’s 10th studio album, with its lead single “Anti-Hero” holding on to the number one spot. The release of her album faced some competition from The Beatles’ Revolver, which had stayed at the number one spot for seven whopping weeks back in 1966 and was trying to regain the number one spot but settled for number two.
The singer-songwriter’s electronica-style album has snagged the title of the fastest-selling album. It even beat Harry’s House, Harry Styles’s equally chart-topping music album that was pegged as the fastest-selling album earlier in the year.
The beautiful 32-year-old artist overtook Madonna and has set a new official chart record for attaining the fastest chain of 9 UK number 1 albums of any female artist.
Taylor’s Midnights has followed in the footsteps of the success of her other 8 UK chart-topping albums. Her music releases have continued to gain wild popularity and covet a massive fan base.
So far, Taylor’s music portfolio includes her 2012’s Red, 1989 released in 2014, Reputation for 2017, Lover released in 2019, and 2020’s Folklore and Evermore. She has already re-recorded Fearless and Red, which were released the previous year.
Prior to TayTay’s musical success, it was The Beatles who held the overall record of having nine chart-toppers in a span of five years and seven months. With the current domination of Taylor’s music, however, she has booted out Arctic Monkey’s streak of six UK songs, all chart-toppers. The rock band’s seventh album, The Car, has also slipped further from #2 last week to this week’s #5.
Other songs that made it to this week’s top charts are from Alfie Boe and Michael Ball’s album Together In Vegas as well as Actual Life by Fred Again….
Taylor has now become the first artist to have all her 10 songs dominate the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart. That’s right. The top ten spots on the music chart were all Taylor’s, scoring the perfect 10 for her 10th album.
Since her Midnights album dropped on October 21, the Swifties and music enthusiasts have clearly been listening to her songs non-stop. Midnights has become the most-streamed album in a day on Spotify, breaking all previous records. It has also earned the title of 2022’s most-streamed album, with 72.5 million streams in 7 days.
This unending popularity and acclaim for her music have also led to Taylor unseating the famous rapper Drake, who once had nine of his songs dominate the top 10 in 2021.
The pop star’s current album exploded the music realm, unlocking the artist’s many historic achievements. As of now, her album has also had the most significant sales (204,000) for an album, exceeding her own personal record of 90,300 chart sales for her album 1989.
