Girl Power: Demi Moore Says Her Female Friends Are Essential To Her Wellbeing
While some surround themselves with friends just for the sake of “networking,” others take the idea of friendship very seriously. The latter is the case for Demi Moore, who recently said that one of the keys to her wellbeing is the presence of her close female friends.
The Hollywood star, who just clocked 60, went deep into sharing her story on Jamie Lee Curtis’ Good Friend podcast. She explained how her struggle with substance abuse and failed marriages after a traumatic childhood opened her eyes to the value of her female friends.
The Ghost actress has built a strong web of friendship consisting of stars including Amber Valletta, Amanda de Cadenet, and Gwyneth Paltrow. With her experience from these friendships, Moore said she is living proof that women cannot do without such friendships.
Moore has been married to three men – Freddy Moore, who she married in 1981 and divorced in 1985; Bruce Willis, who she married in 1987 and divorced in 2000; and Ashton Kutcher, with whom she tied the knot in 2005. Her marriage to Ashton ended in 2013. During the eight years it lasted, Demi stated that she found it difficult to have female friends. Her attention was completely stolen by the desire to compete for Ashton’s attention with younger women, she shared. Demi is 16 years older than Ashton. But as she grew older, she learned to cherish her friendships.
“Occasionally you walk away with one friend – or maybe two – that you’re really close to and they’re like mini-marriages. If I don’t see someone for 20 years and I see them it’s as if no time has gone by,” the actress explained.
While 60 is beyond the youthful and middle age range, Demi is not resigned to being old. Surrounded by healthy friendships, she said in a recent interview with People that she feels more alive and present than ever in so many ways.Rather than accept the idea that a woman becomes less desirable as she ages, Demi is embracing her growth and refusing to focus on the negatives. She is really happy to be where she is and feels comfortable in her aging self. At 60, Demi has achieved several feats after her breakthrough role in Ghost in 1990, which earned her a Golden Globe nomination. She has gone ahead to have a successful career even after a brief downturn in her career. Notable movies in which she starred include Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, Margin Call, and Rough Night. She is also a bestselling writer. On the home front, Demi is a mother of three women between the ages of 28 and 33.
