Chris Hemsworth Is Taking A Showbiz Break After Learning He Is At Risk Of Getting Alzheimer’s Disease
Thor star Chris Hemsworth will be on hiatus for a while and will spend time with his family. This is after he discovered that he is at risk of Alzheimer’s.
The 39-year-old actor decided to spend time with family after completing his new Disney + docuseries entitled Limitless. The confronting episode about death was a wake-up call and a life-changing experience for the actor.
He mentioned to Vanity Fair how doing a series about death and facing mortality shook him and that he was just not ready to pass on. Due to the new awareness, Chris wants to be still and be in his comfort zone but with a deeper level of appreciation and stillness. Then he shared that being in that quiet space led him to start thinking and talking about his family and his children.
This prompted Chris to take some time off, given that he has closed out the show and is now in the process of closing all of his commitments. He plans to spend time with Elsa Pataky, his wife, and their three kids, 10-year-old India, and 8-year-old twin boys Sasha and Tristan.
True to his word, the actor and his wife were seen arriving back home in Australia last Monday via chartered jet. This is after he had wrapped up the reshooting in Prague for Extraction 2 and the promotional visit to the USA for his Disney + series.
Chris’ discovery that he is genetically susceptible to developing Alzheimer’s has triggered him to re-evaluate his life. Alzheimer’s is the most common type of dementia that leads to memory loss and eventually destroys an individual’s cognitive skills.
Chris had his blood work done as part of confronting his mortality while he was filming Limitless, and the results of his lab reports took him by surprise. He learned that he is eight to ten times more likely to develop a neurologic disorder than the general population.
This is primarily due to Chris having two copies of APOE4, considered the most potent risk factor gene for Alzheimer’s. Only two to three percent of the world’s population carry two APOE4s.
Limitless is a Disney+ program that follows Chris as he pushes against his physical boundaries. Given that he has earned his stardom primarily based on action and superhero movies, this series is about Chris discovering what else his body can do. Recall that the actor had to gain 40 pounds for Thor.
Since learning his results, Chris is determined to cultivate a healthier lifestyle and to be with his family as much as possible. There are effective ways to reduce the risk of developing this condition, like reducing cigarette and alcohol consumption and ensuring that the body is well-rested.
The news was not pleasant, but it gave Chris ample time to change his lifestyle and cherish what he had. And it looks like a break from acting and showbiz’s demands and pressure is a good start for the actor.
