Mariah Carey Blasted For Obvious Lip Sync At The Thanksgiving Parade
Mariah Carey made her return, and a sparking one at that, during the 96th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade last Thursday. This is after being absent for almost seven years.
The audience welcomed the singer heartily as they awaited her powerful vocals and beautiful music. But the fans were disappointed quickly, as the return of the Songbird Supreme was not worth the wait.
And the main reason why? Mariah was blatantly lip-syncing and not exerting any effort to make it look seamless.
The songstress, who gave herself the nickname “Queen of Christmas,” was in her diva element, as expected, while performing in Manhattan. Her song, All I Want For Christmas, is still a hit and has become one of the much-loved Christmas tunes. And dressed for the occasion, Mariah performed in a red dress and a princess tiara.
Her team of dancers, who were also dressed in matching holiday attire, matched her elaborate performance. Her 11-year-old twins, Monroe and Moroccan, made an appearance, dancing in Christmas boxes behind their mother.
Mariah’s musical presentation officially opened the holidays in New York and the rest of the US.
However, fans blasted Mariah because her flawless vocals were too immaculate. And this is not the first time the singer has been accused of dodgy miming. The vocals for this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving were similar to the recorded version of the famous 1994 track.
One fan blasted Mariah for her blatant lip-synching and said she doesn’t even attempt to hide it. Another penned a question asking if Mariah is still singing live these days, given that she did not belt out a single note during the parade. Another one complained of all the lip-syncing and the singer still being paid to do nothing.
Others were sarcastic about the performance, praising the all-out performance that was so live.
Meanwhile, Mariah shared a Thanksgiving post on her Instagram, wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and expressing her pride in her twins. Meanwhile, her beau, Bryan Tanaka, played the ever-supporting partner and commented on how Mariah’s performance was the best in 2022.
Recall that in 2016, Mariah suffered another nightmare performance at Times Square. The singer was left on stage out-of-sync with her supposed lip-sync track due to technical problems. Like this year, she was supposed to welcome 2017 and say goodbye to 2016 by belting out two of her best hits, We Belong Together and Emotions.
However, while on stage, Mariah seemed not to hear the backing track, so she stopped singing—or acting like she was singing—and placed her hand on her hips while her vocals were in full blast.
Furious and embarrassed about the disaster watched by millions in Time Square and more watching at home, Mariah started pacing across the stage, panicking and frustrated.
With her performance being a total disaster, the singer known for her melismatic singing style tried her hardest to keep calm and regain her composure. She addressed the crowd and said she was trying to be a good sport about the whole episode.
Her backup dancers put on brave faces and continued but became so confused with what was unfolding on stage that they ultimately stopped, and at that point, Mariah walked off the stage.
This year was not as bad, but the crowd still wanted a live performance that they didn’t get from Mariah.
