Ellen Show DJ Stephen’ Twitch’ Boss Dies At 40, Medical Examiners Say It Was Suicide
DJ Stephen twitch Boss, known for DJing for “Ellen DeGeneres Show,” died on Tuesday. The 40-year-old was found dead in a motel room about 15 minutes away from his home in L.A. at about 11:15 a.m. that day.
Per DailyMail, the motel staff said that a maid had found his body while performing a welfare check when she observed he failed to check out on time.
According to the motel staff, Stephen shot himself in the head. “There was his stuff in there, but no one there. She checked the bathroom, and there was blood everywhere,” said Rakesh, manager of the motel identified as the Oak Tree Inn. LAPD also confirmed that he died from a gunshot injury which was self-inflicted.
Rakesh added that 911 operators told them to check Stephen’s pulse, but they found nothing. And when first responders came, they pronounced him dead.
The motel manager also revealed that no one heard when Stephen shot himself, alluding to the possibility of him committing the act on Monday when he checked into his room. “It’s a busy, loud road outside here, it’s possible nobody heard it because of that,” he stated.
The D.J.’s death came three days after he and his wife and fellow dancer Allison Holker celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary. He had shared a video of them dancing happily together in front of a Christmas tree.
However, trouble began when he left his home on Monday without his car. According to DailyMail, Alison got worried when he didn’t return home by the next day, so she went to file a report at a local LAPD station.
According to motel staff, Stephen, who called ahead on Monday morning to confirm if there were free rooms, seemed to be “calm” and “completely normal.” Eddy Boss, his grandfather, had said there were no signs that he was troubled in the weeks leading to his death. Former colleagues on the Ellen show also believe that committing suicide is out of character for him. LAPD, however, maintained that there were no signs of foul play.
Stephen broke into showbiz on MTV’s The Wade Robson Project. He later gained popularity on the dance show “So You Think You Can Dance,” where he finished second place in 2008 before starting as a D.J. on the Ellen show in 2014.
Reacting to her D.J.’s death, Ellen said in a statement that she was “heartbroken.” She described him as “pure love and light,” calling him her family whom she loved with all her heart. “I will miss him. Please send your love and support to Allison and his beautiful children – Wesie, Maddox, and Zaia,” she said in the statement as reported by DailyMail.
Other celebrities, including World of Dance colleague Jennifer Lopez and Magic Mike XXL co-star Channing Tatum, have expressed grief over the father of three’s death.
