Scream VI Teaser: Ghostface Moves On To New York City
The much-awaited Scream VI new teaser has been dropped, and the action horror film has moved locations from its fictional Woodsboro town in California to New York City.
This is the first spine-tingling movie franchise without its prominent and longtime star Neve Campbell. But cast members from the previous movies are making a comeback to ensure the continuity of the story.
Once again, the terrifying and unforgiving Ghostface in the subway stalks the characters Mindy (Jasmin Savoy Brown), Tara (Jenna Ortega), Sam (Melissa Barrera), and Chad (Mason Gooding), who were all survivors of the previous Scream movie.
In the movie preview, the foursome is seen inside the train, looking at the people around them nervously. Some passengers are wearing Halloween costumes. Ghostface is now a favorite costume, and several Halloween revelers wear the character’s mask and hood, much to the discomfort and anxiety of the four survivors.
And among all those wearing the Ghostface costume, one is different from the others playing dress-up. When the lights on the subway start to flicker, one of the Ghostfaces starts heading directly in their direction, moving closer to them.
Mindy, although visibly shaken and with fear apparent on her face, tries to avoid meeting the approaching Ghostface’s face, but the electrical fluctuations turn into an actual power outage, causing the entire train station to plunge into darkness.
And Mindy has every right to feel fear because when the lights come back on, Ghostface’s hand is entirely over Mindy’s face, stifling her attempts to cry for help. This is just the beginning of that heart-stopping fear that Ghostface managed to evoke from the very first Scream movie.
The teaser unfolds, revealing the newest slogan for the movie: “In a city of millions, no one hears you scream.”
Courteney Cox, a Friends alum and a longtime cast member of the Scream franchise, will be returning for this movie and to her role as reporter Gale Weathers.
Many hoped—especially the 90s kids—that Neve Campbell, who played Sidney Prescott in the precious movies, would also return to her character. However, Neve revealed that she had declined the offer for Scream VI because the compensation proposed was not enough.
In an interview last June 2022, Neve said, “As a woman, I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream.”
The 49-year-old actress stated, “I felt the offer presented did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.”
Indeed, Neve has always been part and almost synonymous with the movie franchise, and Hollywood can confirm that the movies cumulatively have earned and grossed more than $744 million worldwide.
But Neve never said no for good because the actress was clear that if the offer felt proper and respectful to her and would preserve her value, Neve could consider bringing Sidney Prescott to life again.
