Jenna Ortega On That Iconic Wednesday Addams Dance Scene: No Choreography Plans At All
Jenna Ortega has shared that she was given two days to come up with her dance choreography for the dance scene in their show on Wednesday.
The 20-year-old actress who plays Wednesday Addams on the Netflix series has steadily stolen the spotlight for her effortless and compelling portrayal of Wednesday. And during her interview with Jimmy Fallon, Jenna spoke about that dance scene that was part of the fourth episode of the season.
The actress revealed that their director, Tim Burton, instructed her to come up with her dance before the scene was shot.
The talented Jenna admitted that her director thought that she had something that she’d been working on for her choreography, but the truth is, she didn’t have any plan at all.
Jenna told Jimmy that she could not sleep for two days, and she ended up watching videos to come up with something—anything. She admitted that she watched archival footage of dancing goth kids in clubs, especially in the 80s, to get some inspiration.
Even before the dance scene was shot, Netflix was confident that her dance would be the next TikTok viral video. The Scream VI actress didn’t believe the prediction of the network, but then again, she humorously agreed during the interview that Netflix was right.
Jenna Ortega seems to be breathing Wednesday Addams because, during her interview, she was wearing an all-black, sheer ensemble with white collars and cuffs. She also added a black tie to her dress and accessorized it with a silver-chrome corset, further accentuating her slim waist.
As of today, Wednesday continues to dominate the Netflix charts. The supernatural show has become the biggest streamer’s third series in English.
The series, Wednesday, has now clocked in 752.52 million viewing hours since it made its debut on November 23. More than 115 million households have watched it, and the numbers keep increasing as more people catch on to the hype of the series.
While Wednesday ranked #3 overall, Stranger Things 2 and Dahmer: Monster–The Jeffrey Dahmer Story ranked #1 and #2, respectively.
Squid Game, the South Korean drama, is currently the most popular Netflix series. With its steady popularity and Wednesday breaking records since November, it will come as no surprise if it soon takes over the other English TV series on Netflix.
And to back up this possibility, late last November, the series logged 341.23 million hours in a single week. And it has steadily risen to 411.29 million viewers.
Wednesday stars the one and only daughter of the infamous Addams Family. Christina Ricci previously held the role.
And when Jenna was asked if she sought Christina’s advice on how to play the role and bring the character to life, Jenna mentioned that she did not. Still, in her defense, she stated that the Wednesday characters they play are entirely different.
