Nicki Minaj And Jay Z Make Billboard’s List Of Best Male And Female Rappers Of All Time
Following Billboard and Vibe’s 50th-anniversary celebration, on February 8, the RnB and Hip Hop magazine listed Nicki Minaj and Jay Z as the greatest male and female rappers of all time.
Although the list contains the names of 50 musicians that are “The Greatest of All Time,” rapper Jay Z makes it to number 1, Nicki Minaj makes it to number 10, and the only female rapper in the top 10 list.
Other rappers that made it to the publication’s top 10 list include Kendrick Lamar, Nas, Tupac Shakur, Eminem, The Notorious B.I.G, Lil Wayne, Drake, and Snoop Dogg, in that order.
Jay Z, who goes by the real name, Shawn Corey Carter, has had a career in Hip Hop that spans over three decades, and no one can take the top 1 spot from him.
“There are simply none who can match his entire career—his longevity, the breadth of his accomplishments, and what he’s meant to hip-hop from a musical, cultural, and financial standpoint for the last three decades,” the magazine writes.
At the 65th Grammy, the rapper delivered what fans regard as an “electrifying performance” of DJ Khaled’s God Did. Noting his studio and live performance of the song, Billboard writes: “And even today, still makes time to drop four-minute long rap verses that break the internet(as he did on DJ Khaled’s God Did in 2022).”
Exploring Nicki Minaj’s hip-hop trajectory, the publication states: “She’s undeniably blazed the trail for the next generation of female MCs, while at the same time, building a legacy whose impact is hardly limited to the hip-hop world.”
Beating some of hip-hop’s top-rated rappers like Kanye West, J Cole, 50 Cent, T.I, and Lil Kim, the publication describes Nicki as “one of only a dozen artists to have more than 100 Billboard Hot 100 entries, and earned the MTV Video Vanguard Award in 2022 for her provocative music videos.”
The singer has been nominated for the Grammys 10 times since the start of her career and has never actually won one. However, the Anaconda hitmaker, who rose to fame through rapper Lil Wayne’s Young Money camp, is reportedly worth $130 million.
Spanning a career of over three decades, Jay Z, on the other hand, has been nominated for 88 Grammys and has now won 24. The Billboard number one rapper has also sold 140 million records and has 14 Billboard 200 No. 1 albums.
