Beyoncé Breaks Record With Most Grammy Wins in History
The Grammys were a star-studded affair that witnessed Beyoncé breaking the all-time record for most Grammy wins of any artist.
With her 32 Grammys, Beyoncé beat Hungarian-British conductor Georg Solti’s long-held record. Solti, who held the record with his 31 Grammy wins, is best known for his work as the music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
But that wasn’t Beyoncé’s only achievement. She also had the most nominations (nine!) of the night.
She shared an iconic tie with her husband Jay-Z for the most-nominated artist of all time with 88 nominations each.
Accepting her award, Beyoncé said she was still trying to take in the night and thanked God for protecting her. She also extended thanks to her Uncle Johnny, her parents, her husband, and her three children. Beyoncé also expressed gratitude to the queer community for their love and for inventing the genre.
The star also took to Instagram to thank her team for her wins with Break My Soul and Cuff It. However, due to bad traffic, the star had to miss receiving the first three wins and her red-carpet appearance.
When the singer did make her entry, all eyes were on her, and her stunning rose gold bustier with high-shine silver ruffle skirt. She wore iconic 70-carat Lorraine Schwartz diamond drop earrings and her hair was in mermaid waves.
The Grammys also saw some great wins by Adele, Harry Styles, Lizzo, Kendrick Lamar, Bonnie Raitt, and others.
It also was a memorable night for Kim Petras, who became the second transgender woman with a Grammy win. Petras and Sam Smith won the award for best pop duo/group performance for their song Unholy.
Beyonce’s 2022 album Renaissance Act I is her 7th solo studio album and was released in July. The album quickly rose up the charts, setting the record for most single-day streams for albums by a female artist. This record was only later surpassed by Taylor Swift’s album Midnights.
Renaissance Act I includes a list of 16 club tracks that pay homage to black queer artists and LGBT icons, especially pioneers of funk, soul, rap, house, and disco. The album was born from the pandemic and is just the first of a three-part project.
Beyoncé was recently in the news for her performance at the new Atlantis, The Royal Resort in Dubai. This was a long-awaited performance, the singer’s first full concert in 4 years. Her 11-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy, joined her on stage.
Despite the anticipation, the artist’s performance received some backlash from fans due to Dubai’s strict laws against same-sex relationships.
While more news about the Grammys is on the way, Beyoncé fans certainly have a lot to look forward to with the two upcoming acts under Renaissance. There are rumors of the second one being an acoustic album and the third one being a Jay-Z collaboration.
