Kim Kardashian Splurges $200k On An Iconic Princess Diana Cross Necklace
Reality TV star Kim Kardashian has just acquired an iconic necklace only worn by Princess Diana. The necklace was acquired at a recent auction held by R.M Sotheby’s on Wednesday.
The necklace in question is a purple amethyst and diamond Attallah cross necklace, and reportedly Kim spent precisely $197,000 to get her hands on it. The 1920 necklace is a product of a Jewelry company Garrard. According to Vogue, the late Princess was friends with the British businessman Naim Attallah, who owned the brand, and he loaned the piece to her for an event.
Princess Diana was seen wearing this necklace to a London charity function in October 1987, while she paired it with a black and burgundy long-sleeve velvet gown that had a ruffled neckpiece.
Ramsay Attallah, Naim Attalah’s son, spoke highly of Diana rocking the piece, saying, “Few people could carry this piece off, but Diana really could.”
“When I was growing up, we’d always have it on the table for Christmas lunch, but it was never worn by anyone other than Diana, and it hasn’t been seen in public since she died,” he added.
Now, the historical piece is owned by Kim Kardashian, who has become a collector of historical pieces worn by “iconic women.”
Speaking to DailMail, a source close to Kim revealed that the SKIMS founder is “honored to be able to own a fine piece of jewelry once worn by the late princess” and to add to her growing collection of historic memorabilia worn by “strong, iconic women” who have inspired Kim.
“Diana was a woman of incredible style, beauty, and grace. Kim is honored to be able to own a fine piece of jewelry once worn by the late princess,” the source stated.
The necklace with a total diamond weight of 5.25 carats is not the first historic piece the mother of four has acquired. In 2011, the reality TV star spent $65,000 on a bangle set owned by Elizabeth Taylor. In 2017, she spent $379,500 on a Jackie O’s wristwatch.
Another historical piece owned by a “strong” and iconic” woman Kim has gotten her hands on was the famous Happy Birthday Mr. President dress which Marilyn Monroe wore to the Madison Square Garden on May 19, 1962. The icon had worn the dress to a fundraiser for JFK and the Democratic National Committee, causing a stir as she performed.
