Pink Clears Air Over “Shading” Christina Aguilera With Her Lady Marmalade Remarks
On February 19, Pink set the records straight when she clapped back at a fan who called her out for “shading” her collaboration with Christina Aguilera, 42, on Lady Marmalade.
Responding to the tweet which has now been deleted, the Pop singer wrote, “Y’all are nuts.”
The controversy sparked after Pink ranked Lady Marmalade as #12 in her top 12 most iconic music videos during the TRUSTFALL album promotion interview with Buzzfeed UK.
In her defense, the mom of two addressed the fans and others who believed she was stirring fights with Christina. “Xtina had shit to do with who was on that song,” she stated.
“If you don’t know by now–I’m not “shading” someone by telling it over and over and over what actually happened. I’m zero percent interested in your f**king drama. If you haven’t noticed–I’m a little busy selling. And by selling–I mean tickets and albums and bake sales and s**t.”
Speaking with the outlet, she stated that Lady Marmalade “wasn’t very fun to make. I’m all about fun, and it was, like, a lot of fuss, and there were some personalities.”
The Just Give Me a Reason hitmaker returned to clarify and end the chatter for once following her decade-long feud with Christina after a record executive — Ron Fair — overstepped during the making of Lady Marmalade.
In a VH1 Behind the Music special in 2009, Pink revealed that her fight with the Beautiful singer started while she, Christina, Lil’ Kim, and Mya were recording Lady Marmalade for the Moulin Rouge! Soundtrack in 2001, in their early 20s.
“He didn’t say hi to any of us and said, ‘What’s the high part? What’s the most singing part? Christina going to take that part.’ I stood up, and I said, ‘Hi. How are you? So nice of you to introduce yourself. I’m Pink. She will not be taking that part. I think that’s what the f**king meeting’s about.”
A decade after the feud, the former friends reconnected on The Voice in 2016, with Pink mentoring Christina’s team. In 2017, Pink explained to Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live: “I hadn’t seen her in years and years and years, and we became moms…We grew up, and we hugged it out.”
Appearing on WWHL in 2019, Christina acknowledged that Pink had some feelings about the recording of Lady Marmalade and heckled her during the recording. But “she’s a different person now—she’s a mom, she’s like, she’s cool,” Christina tells Andy Cohen.
Wrapping up her online clap back, Pink referenced a kiss she and Christina once shared during a spin-the-bottle game: “I kissed Xtinas mouth. I don’t need to kiss her a**.”
