Madonna Finally Admits To Getting Plastic Surgery, Makes Jokes About “Swelling From Surgery”
On Monday, Madonna returned on Twitter to deliver a clap back over the criticism she got for her “swelling from surgery” after “close-up photos” of her taken with a “long lens camera” at the 65th Grammys surfaced online.
Responding to the fan criticism from two weeks ago, the 64-year-old singer shared a picture of herself dressed in ripped jeans, oversized jackets, and a baseball cap with the cheeky caption: “Look how cute i am now that swelling from surgery has gone down. Lol.”
Earlier in the month, many of her fans mocked the legendary singer over her plumpy-looking cheeks while she presented Grammy awards to Kim Petras and Sam Smith. The Material Girl singer returned a day after the Grammy to address the vitriol in a lengthy Instagram post.
“It was an honor for me to introduce Kim Petras and Sam Smith at the Grammys. I wanted to give the last award which was Album of the year, but I thought it was more important that I present the first trans-woman performing at the Grammys–a History-making moment!!” the singer began.
She went on to address the online negative comments about her Grammy looks, stating, “Instead of focusing on what I said in my speech which was about giving thanks for the fearlessness of artists like Sam and Kim–Many people chose to only talk about Close-up photos of me Taken with a long lens camera By a press photographer that Would distort anyone’s face!!”
The multi-Grammy-winning artist pointed out that such negative reactions to her Grammy looks were fueled by ageism and misogyny “that permeates the world we live in.”
“A world that refuses to celebrate women past the age of 45 And feels the need to punish her if she continues to be strong-willed, hard-working and adventurous,” she added.
The singer expressed her annoyance with how she was criticized online for her after-surgery looks and re-emphasized that she has never “apologized for any of the creative choices” she makes and won’t start now while quoting Beyoncé’s Break My Soul, saying, “You–won’t break my soul.”
On the other hand, Madonna has been preparing for her Celebration Tour, which will take on 35 cities and kick off on July 15, starting in North America.
The Nothing Really Matters singer also shared several pictures on her Instagram, indicating she’s been in the studio preparing for the tour. Early in February, she shared a picture of herself, with audio from her 2005 song Sorry, captioned, “What songs should I play on the Celebration Tour?”
