Jada Pinkett Smith’s Close Source Claims Chris Rock Has Been “Obsessed” With Her For Over 30 Years
On Monday, a source close to Will Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, told People that Chris Rock’s focus on Jada has “been going on for almost 30 years.”
The insider was reacting to Chris’ latest Netflix special, Chris Rock: Selective Outrage, which made scathing jokes about Will and Jada. The comedian’s Netflix live show comes a year after Will took to the Oscar stage to deliver a slap on Chris’ cheek in reaction to his joke about Jada’s Alopecia.
“Jada has had no part in all of this other than being heckled,” the source tells People. They go on to reveal that “Chris is obsessed with her, and that’s been going on for almost 30 years.”
They went further to draw a line stating that Chris’ obsession also influenced where he chose to film his Netflix special — in her hometown of Baltimore.
During the special, the comedian tells his audience that Jada tried to stop him from hosting the Oscars years ago, saying, “Years ago, his wife said I should quit the Oscars. I shouldn’t host ‘cause her man didn’t get nominated for Concussion. And then he gives me a f**ing concussion.’”
However, the insider counters his claims stating that “she never asked Chris not to host ever. She publicly said in a Facebook post at the time Chris would be a great Oscars host and is perfect for the job.”
“Back in 2016, she helped start a movement with the Academy Awards by questioning why there are so few Black members, and Chris took it to this?” the source adds.
Since that slap at last year’s Oscars, Chris hasn’t commented until his Netflix live aired on March 4. While cracking jokes to his audience for over 90 minutes, the comedian affirms that Jada deserves to be made fun of, stating she started it, and he’s merely finishing it.
“I did some jokes about her,” he said. “Who gives a f***? That’s how it is: She starts, I finish it. That’s what the f*** happened. Nobody’s pickin’ on this bitch. She started this s***. Nobody was pickin’ on her.”
The insider also confirmed to People that Jada was shocked at how many times Chris used the word “bitch” to refer to her.
Since the Oscar slap event, Will has tendered several public apologies to Chris, resigned from the Oscars, and got banned from the Academy Awards for ten years. The outcome of the event has also affected some of his other projects. However, the issue didn’t affect Bad Boys 4, which is currently in production.
