Selena Gomez Will Be On Social Media Hiatus After Defending Her Pal Taylor Swift Against Hailey Bieber’s Old Mocking Video
After defending her BFF Taylor Swift, singer and actress Selena Gomez recently announced she would take a social media hiatus. This is after she defended her friend Taylor Swift, who was mocked by Justin Bieber’s wife, Hailey Bieber, in a video. Recall that Selena was in a relationship with Justin when they were younger.
The 30-year-old, the most followed woman on Instagram, used TikTok Live last Thursday to share her plans of going on a social media and, overall, internet sabbatical after being on the receiving end of backlash for defending her friend against criticism.
Furthermore, the Wizards of Waverly Place star also used the platform to tell her followers that she would not ask for an apology and that she was grateful for her fans and their support.
Selena stated in her post, “I’m gonna be taking a second from social media because this is a little silly, and I’m 30. I’m too old for this. But I love you guys so much, and I will see you guys sooner than later. I’m just going to have to take a break from everything.”
After her live announcement, Selena deactivated her TikTok account. As of now, the singer’s Instagram is still active.
Recall that the unnecessary drama started last Thursday—an old clip resurfaced showing Hailey and the previous co-host of Drop The Mic, Method Man, targeting Taylor and her score-settling music hits. Hailey gestured like she was about to throw up.
The TikTok account that posted the video captioned the clip, “This is REAL Hailey “Bieber,” reproving the model as a mean girl and a bully.
And adding fuel to the burning fire, the 30-year-old Selena went straight to the TikTok comments and left her remark, “Sorry, my best friend is and continues to be one of the best in the game.”
It is expected that Selena will defend Taylor, with whom she has been friends since 2008. Both were teen stars then, building their careers, and were dating two of the Jonas Brothers. Then, Selena began her on-and-off romance with Justin Bieber, who married Hailey after they broke up in 2018.
Despite Selena and Hailey’s fans relentlessly pitting them against each other and trolling each other on their social media accounts, the women have consistently denied any personal issues between them. They were even pictured embracing each other last October when they both attended the Academy Museum gala in Los Angeles.
Hailey and Selena also have nothing but good words for each other. Selena had even told Vulture that the photo of them together at the Academy Museum was not a big deal. Justin’s wife also mentioned on the Call Her Daddy podcast that she had nothing but respect for her husband’s ex-girlfriend, while denying that Justin’s relationship with Selena ended because of her.
After Selena and Justin broke up, Hailey came into the picture and was on the receiving end of backlash for being the cause of the breakup. Later, when Hailey and Justin got married, Selena reportedly suffered a breakdown that was associated with her lupus.
Selena seems to be back on track now, prioritizing her friends and mental health once again as she takes a break from social media.
