Original Mean Girls Stars May Not Return Due To Disrespectful Money Offer
The original girls of Mean Girls, Amanda Seyfriend, Lacey Chabert, Lindsay Lohan, and Rachel McAdams, all agreed to do another new Mean Girls movie. All four ladies have already said yes.
Tina, the original film writer who will also be writing the musical version, shared the exciting news about the return of another Mean Girls movie last week while guesting on Late Night with Seth Meyers.
But now, the exciting reunion may not go through anymore because the agreement is in jeopardy. This is because Paramount, the parent studio for the movie, was reported to have offered the four ladies a disrespectful amount of compensation for them to reprise their roles.
The new movie was supposed to be written and produced by Tina Fey and will hit the streaming service, Paramount+.
According to Page Six, the four ladies who have made a name for themselves are willing to return to reprise their roles, but unfortunately, Paramount Pictures is not willing to pay the four actresses what they’re worth. It appears that the studio has little to no respect for the girls and what they are already currently worth.
The movie Mean Girls, which was released in 2004, is a classic cult film, and the movie gave birth to a special friendship between the four ladies that has lasted until now.
Rachel was reportedly offered a more significant role in the upcoming movie. Recall that in the 2004 film, she played Regina George, the queen bee and leader of the pack.
The 30 Rock star is also pegged to reprise her role as Miss Norbury and was offered a seven-figure deal to produce, star, and write the new Mean Girls movie. Lindsay, Rachel, Lacy, and Amanda were only offered a fraction of what was offered to Tina.
The all-girl members of the Plastics are not expected to play their original characters in the musical. Still, the bottom line is that regardless of whether they have a script that is six pages long or simply a cameo appearance, the compensation offered to them is downright disrespectful.
Once again, Tim Meadows, Tina’s fellow SNL alum, is expected to play the role of Principal Ron Duvall.
Mean Girls is close to Tina’s heart because not only was she the writer for the 2004 original movie, but she also wrote the musical version. And it is something to be proud of because she got a Tony nomination. Jeff Richmond, her husband, also co-wrote the music.
In the Broadway adaptation, Reneé Rapp played Regina George, and she is also expected to play the character in the movie. Reneé is best known for her role in HBO Max’s The Sex Lives of College Girls.
Meanwhile, Lindsay Lohan’s role, Cady Heron, will be played by Angourie Rice, who played Betty Brant in the Spider-Man movie franchise.
