Katie Holmes’ Daughter, Suri, Has Started Applying For College, And Her Dad, Tom Cruise, Has Zero Say On Where She Goes
Time goes by so fast, and everyone can agree, especially now that Suri, Katie Holmes’ daughter, is already 16 years old and has started sending in her college applications. Yes, where is that 6-year-old Suri that everyone adored?
It was revealed that with the help of her famous mother, Suri began applying for colleges. Tom Cruise, her father, will not have a say in the process and the decision-making, as he doesn’t have a relationship with his daughter at all.
A source who is friends with Katie revealed that Suri, who’ll be turning 17 next month, has her eyes set on studying fashion and is leaning toward Fordham University in New York City. And her mother approves and fully supports this choice.
The insider revealed, “Suri is applying to schools all over the place. [Katie] really does want her to stay in New York so they can be close to each other. Katie takes great pride in her but is also extremely overprotective.”
While Kate plays a significant and active role in helping her daughter start planning her life, the teen’s father, Mission Impossible star Tom’s role is an entirely different story. The 60-year-old veteran actor will play absolutely no role in Suri’s education or anything else, having been estranged from Suri since 2013, one year after his divorce from Katie.
Back then, Katie had decided to end their marriage due to fears that their daughter would be raised to follow Scientology, a religion that Tom is passionately committed to.
Katie decided to sever ties with the religion and the marriage, which caused a significant rift between the two. This also affected the father-and-daughter relationship, with Tom becoming distant and absent from his daughter’s life.
This news is not new because Suri grew up in the public eye. Although Katie did her best to protect her privacy as much as she could, everyone knows that Suri has not spent time with Tom for a decade and doesn’t know her father anymore.
Tom, in a nutshell, has not been part of Suri’s life. However, the news is that even if Tom doesn’t have a say in helping his daughter choose which school or major to pursue, Tom will pay for her college tuition costs, as stipulated in his and Katie’s extremely private divorce agreement.
Based on their divorce documents, Tom approved of paying Katie the amount of $400,000 a month until their daughter turned 18. Tom also agreed to cover Suri’s expenses, including her dental, medical, insurance, education, college, and other extracurricular fees.
And Tom has always been steadfast in his financial commitments to his ex-wife and daughter. Unfortunately, his presence in Suri’s life is one that he was not able to maintain.
Despite the setup, Katie ensured that the absence of a father in Suri’s life didn’t affect her upbringing. She made it a point to put Suri first and always make her daughter feel loved and complete.
