Ed Sheeran Breaks Down In Tears Sharing His Wife Cherry Seaborn’s Health Concerns And The Passing Of Jamal Edwards, His Best Friend
When it rains, it really does pour, and Ed Sheeran has experienced the worst of the worst as he was seen breaking down in tears during the preview of his newest documentary series, The Sum of It All.
The documentary will showcase the 32-year-old singer’s ups and downs as he achieves stardom. This four-part series can be watched on Disney+, with the first episode available for viewing on May 3.
The trailer of The Sum Of It All begins with the singer sharing bits and pieces about his early years. He shares how it felt to grow up with a stutter and then says, “That guy doesn’t grow up to be a pop star. It is so unlikely.”
Family-captured childhood video clips of Ed were interspersed with more recent clips of the artists during his sell-out tours and performances. Fans and followers will see Ed’s journey from his humble beginnings as an artist to becoming one of the world’s biggest and most successful hitmakers.
During one episode, Ed shared how he met Jamal Edwards, his best friend. He was the one who gave him his first break, and along the process, the two shared an unbreakable bond of friendship—up until Jamal’s sudden death in 2022.
Jamal was a music producer and the son of Brenda Edwards, the actress of Loose Women. He tragically died from cardiac arrest, primarily caused by alcohol and cocaine use in February. Jamal was just 31 years old.
Aside from his best friend, the docuseries also features Ed’s wife, Cherry Seaborn. Clips of her expecting 2-year-old Lyra and 10-month-old Jupiter, the couple’s children, are also included.
When Ed and Cherry were photographed out on dates, Ed remarked that having Cherry in his life had made everything in his life “so much better.”
However, their love story is not all happy when Ed reveals Cherry’s health issues, which tested them as a couple and, admittedly, took a toll on them as husband and wife.
Just recently, Ed opened up and said that they were plagued with anxiety, depression, fear, and uncertainty when Cherry was expecting Jupiter. She was diagnosed with a tumor and couldn’t undergo treatment until she gave birth to their second child.
With the overwhelming news around Ed, he was captured breaking down and crying in his car. He was still coping with the death of his best friend, and his wife’s health battle made things worse.
There was also a clip of Ed sobbing when performing. Cherry shared that she has never seen her husband sob on stage. Ed was still struggling at the time, she said, and he hadn’t had time to process everything.
The trailer ends beautifully with a happier Ed celebrating his birthday, laughing with his friends, performing on stage, and realizing that life can be unpredictable.
The preview comes after Ed shared that his new album, Subtract, is dedicated to his best friend, Jamal. The first single from Subtract, Eyes Closed, is set to be released on March 24.
