Selena Gomez Praises Bestie Taylor Swift’s Role Model Status
Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift have been dishing out some serious BFF goals lately! The two singers have been friends for over a decade, and it seems their bond has only grown stronger over the years.
In case you were wondering if they still think highly of each other, Selena’s recent video tribute to Taylor at the iHeartRadio Music Awards made it clear that their love is as strong as ever.
In the video, Selena calls Taylor a “game changer” and praises her for her innate ability to lead. “Being a role model, I don’t think that’s something you sign up for. I just think it’s something you inherently have inside of you and I think that’s Taylor,” Selena gushed in the video.
But it wasn’t just Selena singing Taylor’s praises. She was joined by many fellow artists, including Justin Timberlake, Miles Teller, Ice Spice, Ed Sheeran, as well as Dolly Parton.
The woman of the hour herself was a stunner in a glittering Alexandre Vauthier gown as she took the stage to accept her award. And while she’s clearly an innovator in her own right, Taylor was quick to point out that it wasn’t a title she ever set out to achieve. Instead, she’s just tried to make the best decisions she can while navigating the ups and downs of her career.
“I really, really want everyone to know, especially young people, that the hundreds or thousands of dumb ideas that I’ve had are what led me to my good ideas. You have to give yourself permission to fail,” she shared in her acceptance speech. “I try as hard as I can not to fail, because it’s embarrassing, but I do give myself permission to, and you should too. So go easy on yourselves and just make the right choices that feel right for you.”
Apart from her incredible talent and hard work, Taylor’s success has also been boosted by the support of close friends like Selena. Her friendship with Selena has been a constant source of support and inspiration over the years. From dancing at awards shows to cooking up a storm on Selena’s HBO Max show, these two have been there for each other through thick and thin.
And while their friendship may have started over a shared love of the Jonas Brothers (seriously, who didn’t crush on those guys back in the day?), it’s grown into something much more meaningful. As Taylor herself pointed out in her acceptance speech, failure is a crucial part of any creative process.
