AJ McLean of Backstreet Boys Hints at a Reunion Tour With the Spice Girls
The ’90s kids grew up with the Backstreet Boys and the Spice Girls. These two pop sensations ruled the nostalgic era, with their songs becoming the theme songs of every high schooler’s life.
And AJ McLean of Backstreet Boys has recently hinted at an epic tour with the possibility of the UK’s Spice Girls joining them!
Imagine two of the top ’90s artists coming together — that’s going to be a performance to remember.
In an interview with Buzzfeed Canada, AJ, now 45 years old, shared how the Backstreet Boys and the Spice Girls have retained their friendship over the years. And it’s because the groups bonded at the peak of their careers.
And when asked about the possibility of a tour together, he replied, “There’s been rumblings of us touring together… if it ever [happens], I think it might be one of the most massive tours ever.”
As one can imagine, the news has sent the internet into a frenzy!
The potential reunion tour will see all the Spice Girls, including Victoria Beckham, Mel B, Mel C, Geri Horner, and Emma Bunton, reuniting for the first time after almost 15 years!
On the other hand, the Backstreet Boys, including Howie Dorough, Nick Carter, Brian Littrell, Kevin Richardson, and AJ McLean, went on tour last year.
Several talks about this crossover have been on the cards for almost 30 years, with the two pop groups hinting about it, but these plans are yet to materialize.
When AJ was asked about the probability of the joint tour happening, he admitted that the likeliness is pretty low in the 30s or even at 20%, saying that everybody, especially the girls, has moved on and done their own thing.
AJ is hopeful, though, because, as an afterthought, he mentioned, “You never know.”
Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter has remained close with Emma Bunton since the two came together for Boyband, an ABC show, in 2017. And the two groups have always been amicable with each other.
Once, the Backstreet Boys even dressed up as the Spice Girls, with Nick transforming into Baby Spice or Emma, Brian as Sporty Spice or Mel C, Kevin as Posh Spice or Victoria Beckham, Howie as Ginger Spice or Geri Horner, and AJ into Scary Spice or Mel B.
And the Spice Girls loved the gag so much that Emma even tweeted Nick, telling him she loved it and wanted his dress.
Mel C was aware of the boys dressing up as them because Howie shared with IT then that it was Mel C who opened the show in Dubai, and then he gave her a heads-up mentioning that on the cruise, they would be dressed as the Spice Girls.
The Spice Girls took the world by storm and catapulted to international stardom in 1994. They went on a hiatus in 2000 and returned for another year between 2007 and 2008.
The Backstreet Boys share almost the same story where they shot to fame in 2003, and then the group took a break for two years in 2003, following which Kevin left the group after three years.
Now with the news of an upcoming reunion tour, the two iconic bands might just give the fans what they want, what they really really want!
