Gwyneth Paltrow Wins Her 4-Year Legal Battle Over The 2016 Ski Crash
Gwyneth Paltrow can finally call it a day and go home after a victorious 4-year legal battle against Terry Sanderson, a retired optometrist, over a ski crash that happened in 2006.
The 50-year-old Goop founder was seen boarding her private jet in Salt Lake City, Utah, with her bodyguard and assistant, who has constantly been by her side during the eight-day trial.
While in Utah, Gwyneth rented a luxury home in Park City’s exclusive Colony, but she left the property a little after 11 a.m. local time and headed straight to the airport. During the trial, Gwyneth’s OOTD made headlines, but going home, the actress opted for a laid-back look with a cream-colored sweatshirt, light blue jeans, and white sneakers.
Gwyneth’s victorious journey back home comes after the jurors in Park City declared her not guilty of the 2016 crash that Terry claims left him with a permanent brain injury and four broken ribs. The jury came up with its decision in less than 24 hours.
After the verdict in Gwyneth’s favor was released, the actress was seen approaching Terry and telling him that she wished him well.
Gwyneth then released her statement via Instagram stories, where she wrote, “I felt that acquiescing to a false claim compromised my integrity. I am pleased with the outcome, and I appreciate all of the hard work of Judge Holmberg and the jury, and I appreciate their thoughtfulness in handling this case.”
Outside the court, Stephen Owens, Gwyneth’s lawyer, also released a statement about how pleased they were with the results. They also appreciated the judge and jury for how they handled the case. Stephen further explained that his client always advocated for things she believed in, and the situation she had just been subjected to was no different.
He ended by encouraging Gwyneth to continue to stand for what’s right.
Last Thursday, the jury found 76-year-old Terry to be entirely accountable for the crash at the Utah ski resort seven years ago. The jury took 2 hours and 20 minutes to reach their verdict.
Due to the court’s decision, Terry will then be obliged to pay Gwyneth a symbolic $1 in damages and pay for his and the actress’ legal fees, which could skyrocket to thousands of dollars.
Gwyneth appeared nervous in court while the verdict was being read out and had her hands clasped on her desk. And when she was found not guilty, she nodded in appreciation and made the same gesture when the judge thanked the jury for their services.
And it appears that all will be well because when Gwyneth approached Terry to wish him well, the retired optometrist responded, “Thank you, dear.”
Gwyneth, relieved that the ordeal was over, smiled and acknowledged the photographers as she headed out of court. Terry, on the other hand, who appeared deflated after the court decision, was asked what his following plans were, and he jokingly responded, “Maybe Disneyland!”
Terry mentioned that he would stand by his truth even if he lost to Gwyneth.
