James Corden Reveals Reason For Leaving The Late Late Show As He Reflects On The Eight-Year Tenure
Beloved British comedian and television personality James Corden is set to end his eight-year tenure as the host of The Late Late Show. Ahead of the emotional final episode, he has opened up about the real reason behind his decision to step down, admitting that it feels “strange” to leave the show that has been a significant part of his life for so many years.
In an interview with Zoe Ball on Radio 2, James, who has become an international star thanks to the program, revealed the real reason for his departure, citing both personal and professional reasons.
“I feel good about it, I just know in my core its right thing to do for so many personal and professional reasons,” he stated.
He went on to explain that although he felt good about his decision to leave the show, he had never felt this way before, saying that it was “a strange one.”
The TV host also said that he was proud of what he had achieved on the show and that he had never been certain that it would work. He added that the response to the show had been extraordinary, both online and internationally, and that it had been “aa glorious ride”
“It’s been extraordinary the response to the show; online, internationally. I wasn’t always certain it was gonna work. I don’t look like I should host an American late night talk show, I’m from High Wycombe! It’s a road less travelled,” he stated.
“It’s been a real journey and it’s so overwhelming and nothing about me looks like I should be hosting a TV show in American which blows my mind,” he added.
James further revealed that the show’s final episode would be great, with big-name guests taking part. He also praised Adele, who recently took part in his final ever Carpool Karaoke, calling it a lovely experience. The two have known each other for a long time and moved to Los Angeles five days apart from each other. James was overwhelmed by the gesture and couldn’t believe that she showed up for the show.
Reflecting on his decision to leave, James said, “It’s a lot to leave and walk away from. It’s not a professional decision, there are people who are getting older in Britain, and we want them to experience spending time together.”
The 44-year-old’s stint on The Late Late Show has been a success, and he promised to “go out with a bang” when he informed fans of his decision to step down. His final episode of The Late Late Show, which films out of Los Angeles, is set to be emotional, with lots of tears as the host says goodbye to the show that changed his life.
