Chris Pratt Opens Up About His Difficult Audition Process for Marvel Cinematic Universe Roles
Chris Pratt is proving that nothing good comes easy as he revealed the tough audition process he had to endure before finally landing his role as Star-Lord in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In a recent interview with Jimmy Kimmel, the actor shared that he auditioned for numerous roles in the franchise, including parts in the Thor and Captain America movies. Pratt revealed that he had a “rough run” auditioning and losing out on multiple roles.
According to the 43-year-old, his auditioning process became so tedious that he almost gave up before landing his breakthrough role in Guardians Of The Galaxy.
Chris went on to explain that he auditioned for everything that remotely looked like him. He submitted tapes for various roles, but most of the time, he didn’t even get a callback.
“I auditioned for them all. I had a rough run with Marvel. I auditioned for Thor, but not even to be Thor — but to be one of the sidekick guys, and I didn’t get a callback,” he said.
The actor joked that he began to believe that he didn’t have the “It Factor” Marvel was looking for because they didn’t even want him to come back. However, he persevered and eventually landed the role of Star-Lord, a character that has become a fan favorite.
Aside from his role in Guardians Of The Galaxy, Pratt also voiced the voice of Mario in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which premiered earlier this month. The actor has also received praise from his superstar father-in-law, Arnold Schwarzenegger, for his performance in Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3. The former governor of California took to Twitter to express how proud he is of his son-in-law, saying that he “crushed it” in the movie.
Chris has been married to Arnold’s eldest child, Katherine, since 2019. The couple shares two daughters, Lyla Maria and Eloise Christina, and they’re open to having more children in the future. The deeply religious couple met in church and connected over their shared beliefs. In a recent appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Katherine described their meet-cute as “super sweet.”
Chris and Arnold have also developed a close relationship, bonding over their shared love of fitness. In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Schwarzenegger revealed that their shared love for pumping iron was the decision-making factor for their friendship. The Terminator icon has also spoken highly of Pratt, describing him as a “kind man” who’s been nothing but loving to his daughter.
Chris’ career has continued to soar, and he’s become one of Hollywood’s most bankable actors. Despite the tough audition process, the actor has proven that hard work and perseverance pay off in the end. Fans are excited to see what roles he will take on in the future and are looking forward to the release of Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3, which is set to premiere in theaters on May 5.
