Adele Gets Emotional In The Final Carpool Karaoke With James Corden
James Corden will no longer be hosting The Late Late Show, but before that, he gave us the best carpool karaoke ever.
For the show’s final segment, Adele gave Corden a ride to work. During the ride, both besties got emotional and chatted teary eyed about their friendship.
The video was released on Monday, April 24, and will be the last carpool of the show, the final episode of which will be aired on April 27.
Reflecting on the time James spent on the show, the comedian said, “I’m excited and scared in equal measure. I don’t know it’s been a crazy eight years. In one sense it feels like it’s gone like that and in the other I can’t really remember what life was like before being here”.
And while the ride got very emotional, it started hilariously with Adele informing James about her not-so-good driving skills.
When picking James up from his home, Adele tells him that she is not a brilliant driver and that she cannot sing without closing her eyes. She adds, “I can’t believe I just pulled out of your drive and nearly crashed.”
Just a few moments later, James pointed out how close the singer had gotten to the car in front of them. To this, the singer jokingly replies that she had precious cargo and that if she did crash, James would keep it in the edit.
The singer and the comedian are both good friends, and remembering their friendship, Adele said, “You’re one of my best friends in the whole world. I’m gonna miss you so much. I’m just not ready to come back [to England], otherwise I would come back with you.”
The duo showed off their singing abilities with some of Adele’s biggest hits like “Rolling in the Deep,” “Love Is a Game,” “I Drink Wine,” “Don’t Rain on My Parade” and “Hometown Glory“.
Later, Adele got very emotional and was brought to tears as she recounted her separation phase from Simon Konecki.
She talked about how James and his wife had helped and supported her and her son Angelo, saying, “It was like the first year that I felt like I had to hold myself accountable for just being an adult. Whereas the year before, I left Simon and stuff like that. But you and Jules and the kids were so integral in looking after me and Angelo and I remember you used to do it with humor as well. You’d be like, ‘Good luck with that one,’ with anything I was pursuing. You were always like an adult to me—you and Julia—and you’d always give me advice.”
The singer also revealed that James had inspired a verse in her song “I Drink Wine”. Trying to make him recall, Adele recounted the whole scene, “We’d been on vacation together with the kids, and we were on our way home and… I remember I said to you on the way home, ‘What’s wrong?’ You just seemed down.”
She told him that the incident inspired the song and that she even recorded it on her phone and sent it to him.
It was a very emotional farewell, but James reminded Adele that their friendship had nothing to do with distance.
