Meghan Markle Responds To Report About Alleged Letter To King Charles III
The Telegraph revealed that the Duchess of Sussex had sent a letter to King Charles regarding the bias in the royal family.
The actress and her husband, Prince Harry, talked about the issue during their sit down with Oprah Winfrey in 2021. Meghan talked about Harry having several conversations with an unidentified senior member of the royal family regarding the color of their firstborn.
It is claimed that after the interview, the Duchess sent a letter to her father-in-law naming the said member. However, the letter was in response to the one she received from King Charles, then known as the Prince of Wales. In the letter, the king expressed his sadness over the tension in the family.
The Daily Telegraph has reported that the reason behind Markle’s not attending the coronation with her husband next month is that she believed the response to her letter was unsatisfactory.
However, Markle’s representative was quick to put down any speculation. In a statement to ET, the spokesperson said, “The Duchess of Sussex is going about her life in the present, not thinking about correspondence from two years ago related to conversations from four years ago. Any suggestion otherwise is false and frankly ridiculous.”
The spokesperson further added that the media and the royal correspondents should stop this exhausting imaginary circus that they are creating.
This comes after it was revealed on April 12 that Harry alone will be present for the coronation and that Megan will stay behind in California with their kids, Archie Harrison (3) and Lilibet Diana (22 months).
However, although Meghan will not be present for the coronation, she was featured in the souvenir program alongside her husband. The souvenir hit the UK newsstand on April 17.
It is said that King Charles is happy about his son being there, although there is no likelihood of a wider reconciliation.
A source close to PEOPLE told the magazine that the issue has become very personal. “Maybe what they wanted wasn’t achieved, but at the end of the day, he’s going there to support his dad.”
He further adds, “Meghan wants to be there to support her father-in-law, but at the same time, the scrutiny she receives outweighs the support. There’s always going to be that other side challenging their reasoning, and who wants to put themselves in that position?”
Prince Harry recently addressed the Oprah interview with ITV interviewer Tom Bradby during the promotion of his book, Spare.
When Brady told the Prince that he had accused his own family members of racism, the Prince denied it. He corrected the fact that Meghan never mentioned the royals as being “racist”. To this, Bradby replied that the duchess talked about concerns over Archie’s skin color and that it was essentially racist.
Harry said that he wouldn’t describe the incident as racist and that there is a difference between racism and unconscious bias.
He further added, “Once it’s been acknowledged or pointed out to you as an individual, otherwise an institution, that you have unconscious bias, you, therefore, have an opportunity to learn and grow from that… otherwise, unconscious bias then moves into the category of racism.”
