Priyanka Chopra Embraces the Future, Leaves Nick Jonas’ Past Behind
In a recent candid interview on Wednesday’s episode of Call Her Daddy, actress Priyanka Chopra opened up about her relationship with husband Nick Jonas and expressed her indifference towards his previous romantic entanglements. The 40-year-old star confidently declared that she doesn’t ‘give a f**k’ about Nick’s ex-girlfriends, highlighting her focus on moving forward rather than dwelling on the past.
During the podcast, Priyanka shared that when she and Nick, 30, first met and began dating in 2018, they were already discussing their future together. The actress revealed that she decided to go on a date with him after watching the music video for his song “Close.” In the video, Nick and singer Tove Lo tantalizingly shed their clothes, revealing their impeccably fit bodies. Priyanka jokingly admitted, “‘That body deserves at least a date.’ I landed on that video. I saw it, and I had to, like, open the window or something.”
Known as a “serial monogamist,” Priyanka acknowledged her past tendencies to jump from one relationship to another. However, she eventually realized that she needed to prioritize herself. Reflecting on her patterns of becoming a caretaker in her previous partnerships and consistently propping up her partners, she took a two-year break from dating to understand why she kept repeating her mistakes.
Their love story began when Nick sent Priyanka a direct message on Twitter in September 2016. The singer later revealed in a Vogue cover story with Priyanka that he wrote, “‘I’m hearing from a few mutual friends that we should meet.'” Her quick-witted response prompted him to text her instead, stating, ‘”My team can read this. Why don’t you just text me?”‘ This led to several months of texting before they finally met in person at the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party in February 2017.
Recalling their first encounter, Nick admitted that he was captivated by Priyanka’s presence. As she walked into the room, he dramatically put down his drink and got down on one knee, exclaiming, ‘”You’re real. Where have you been all my life?”‘ Despite this theatrical introduction, their relationship progressed steadily. They went on their first official date one week before the Met Gala in May 2017, spending time together at the Caryle Hotel and even meeting Priyanka’s mother.
While they didn’t share a kiss that night, Priyanka jokingly expressed her lingering disappointment, stating that she remains upset about the incident. Nick defended himself, reasoning that he wanted to be respectful, especially with her mother in the house. The couple attended the Met Gala together in 2017, sitting at the same table, unaware that they had already been engaging in flirty text exchanges.
It was during a date in Los Angeles that Priyanka realized her connection with Nick was different from her previous experiences. The singer expressed his admiration for her unique perspective on the world and her unwavering ambition, something she had rarely encountered in previous relationships. The couple began dating in May 2018 and, by July of that year, Nick proposed to Priyanka. Their love story culminated in a grand wedding and a romantic journey that has gone on till date.
