The actor died four days before his birthday, as confirmed by his representatives. However, the cause of death has not been revealed yet.
He was working on Cassino in Ischia, an action movie, and many other projects like Gateway to the West and the Disney+ series Ashoka.
Besides Thor, the actor was a part of many major films and TV shows like Band of Gold, Peak Practice, Murphy’s Law, and the Divergent series.
The actor also played the role of Scott Buxton in the Oscar-winning movie RRR. The movie won the award for best original song, making “Naatu Naatu”, the first Indian song to win an Academy Award.
Soon after the news of the actor’s demise was made public, the film’s official page paid tribute to the actor. The message on their Twitter account read, “What shocking news for all of us on the team!” Rest in peace, Ray Stevenson. You will stay in our hearts forever, SIR SCOTT.”
Many other TV personalities paid homage to the Irish actor. Scott Adkins tweeted, “I’m shocked and saddened by the tragic news that a great actor and my good friend Ray Stevenson has passed away. I will miss you Big Ray! Life is short so make the most of it people.”
James Gunn, the co-chief executive of DC Studios and a filmmaker, also remembered the actor on Twitter. He wrote about being sorry about the actor’s passing. He also stated that, while he knew the actor for a very short time, he had some good laughs with him. He shared that the actor was a joy to work with and that his family and friends would be in his heart.
The actor, whose full name is Gregory Raymond Stevenson, was born in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, in 1964. He moved to Newcastle, England, along with his family, when he was 8.
He attended the Bristol Old Vic Theater and worked in British television. His film debut was in 1998 with the Paul Greengrass-directed movie, “The Theory of Flight”. After that, he appeared in a variety of series and movies.
However, the most important role that “turned his life around” was his role as Titus Pullo in the HBO series Rome. The show, which ran from 2005 to 2007, had a major impact on Stevenson’s professional as well as personal life, as he stated in a 2016 interview.
According to him, it was the show that got him recognized in the States and started his movie career. His co-actor in the movie, James Purfoy, paid tribute to him on Twitter, saying it was sad news that “our Pullo in Rome has passed away”. He described the actor as a brilliant, gutsy, and larger-than-life actor who filled every part he played right up to the brim.
Stevenson is survived by his kids, Sebastiano, Leonardo, and Lodovico, whom he shared with his ex, Ruth Gemmell.
