Barbie’s Storyline Revealed In The Brand New Barbie Trailer
The first full-length trailer of Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling is out and it gets real!
The trailer for Greta Gerwig’s upcoming Barbie movie was released on May 25, and it gives us a peek into what we can expect from the iconic doll’s journey through the real world.
The trailer starts with Margot as Barbie partying with other Barbies and Kens and living her best life in the Barbie world. She gushes on about their days being the best days while they do a choreographed dance number, but suddenly, Margot talks about dying.
Margot explains to other Barbies that she has suddenly started experiencing strange things — cold showers, falling off the roof, and her heels are touching the ground!
This leads to her visiting a kooky Barbie, played by Kate McKinnon, who gives her the option of either continuing her life in the Barbie world and things will go back to normal. Or she could explore the real world. She says, “You have to go to the real world. You can go back to your regular life or you can know the truth about the universe. The choice is now yours.”
It doesn’t look like Barbie had much of a choice as she had to leave Barbie land for the real world. Obviously, Ken tags along and that’s where their adventure begins!
We see the two life-long toys land in, what looks like, California and go inline skating wearing their colorful neon outfits. Obviously, they attract a lot of attention, with one man even smacking Barbie’s butt without her consent. Of course, Barbie retaliates by punching him in the face, and our lead couple finds themselves getting arrested!
Barbie also seems to be finding out that she has been left far behind by pop culture. A group of high school girls informs her that they haven’t played with Barbie since they were five years old.
But that’s just the beginning. The toys are yet to pass hurdles set in their path by Will Ferrel, an executive at Mattel (manufacturer of Barbie toys). Ferrel is not happy about the disappearance of the toys, calls it “catastrophic,” and wants them returned to their boxes as soon as possible.
As soon as the trailer dropped, the internet went crazy. The movie became the talk of the town and fans were quick to share their thoughts. One Youtube comment read, “I think I’m not kidding when I say that this trailer has raised the hype for the film by a lot.”
People also seem to be loving the movie’s tagline, with one user tweeting, “‘If you like Barbie, this movie is for you. If you hate Barbie, this movie is for you.’ Might be one of the best movie taglines I’ve seen”
Many commented that it reminded them of the 2000s and the trailer has made them want to own a Barbie in adulthood. Many comments talk about how excited they are to watch the movie.
Apart from Margot, people even loved Ryan as Ken. One Twitter user shared a snapshot of Ken’s mugshot and asked if his legal name was “And Ken.”
Looks like the beloved doll is set to light the theaters on fire on July 21!
