Iconic Tina Turner Remembered As The Queen Of Rock ‘n’ Roll; Dead At 83
Last Wednesday, the music industry stood at a standstill as the news of Tina Turner’s death was announced. The iconic singer was 83, and she undoubtedly got her dying wish.
Recall that when the singer was interviewed six weeks ago, in her final interview, Tina mentioned that she wanted to be remembered as the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll. And she is precisely that.
The legendary Tina passed away in her Zurich, Switzerland, home, specifically in Küsnach. It was reported that the singer had been battling a long illness that was most likely the cause of her death.
Tina’s representative released an official announcement upon her death, stating, “With her, the world loses a music legend and role model.”
Tina’s last interview, dated April 9, was with The Guardian. Aside from sharing how she wanted to be remembered, this is where Tina, almost as a premonition, revealed that she did not fear death. She also shared that she wanted to be remembered “as a woman who showed other women that striving for success on their terms is alright”.
When asked what her fears were as part of growing old, Tina boldly answered, “Nothing. This is life’s full adventure, and I embrace and accept every day with what it brings.”
Sharp and witty as ever, the interviewer humorously asked Tina if she’d like more fame, money, or sex, and she answered, “At my age, is there another option?” She also shared how she enjoyed and made the most of her anonymity during retirement.
At her passing, Tina is survived by her 67-year-old husband, Erwin Bach and her two remaining sons. Tina had four sons, but two preceded her in death. Tina and Erwin finally married in 2013 after more than 30 years together.
After the news of her death was released, tributes came pouring in from friends and people she worked with. Mick Jagger was one of the many who led the way in sharing his memories with Tina.
Tina and Mick had electrifying on-stage chemistry, and Mick wrote in his tribute, “The passing of my wonderful friend Tina Turner so saddens me. She was truly an enormously talented performer and singer.”
Further, Mick described Tina as inspiring, warm, funny, and generous, and he recalled how she helped him when he was young.
Giorgio Armani, another close friend of Tina’s, stated that when he heard of her passing, he was overcome with disbelief and sadness. He remembered his late friend’s incredible energy, which made her almost eternal.
One thing is for sure, though—Tina’s music will continue forever. Giorgio fondly recalled how Tina filled the stage with her energy when performing. He further shared how he would miss her friend and how it was an honor to dress her on many occasions.
Tina was born Anna-Mae Bullock in 1939 in a Tennessee town called Brownsville. Unfortunately, Tina’s childhood was rather turbulent, thanks to her parents, Floyd and Zelma Bullock. But despite a rough childhood and an abusive marriage, Tina became a musical legend and sensation, a performer who owned the stage and connected with her audience.
