Halle Berry Wins! Victory Over Decade-Long Child Support Is Finally Over
After ten years, Halle Berry has finally achieved another win in her overdue child support case against her ex-lover Gabriel Aubry.
The 56-year-old actress has been embroiled in expensive custody battles with the father of her children, Gabriel. Halle and Gabriel share 15-year-old Nahla Ariela Aubry and 9-year-old Maceo Robert Martinez.
Recall that in 2014, the LA Superior Court ordered the Monster’s Ball actress to pay Gabriel a monthly $16,000 plus the lump sum of $115,000. This was the first time the ex-lovers locked horns and took their case legally. Back then, Halle blasted the court decision as pure extortion.
She continued working with her legal team, and in 2021, she reduced the initial $16,000 by half. Still, despite adjusting the monthly financial obligation to $8,000, the Oscar-winning actress was then made to pay Gabriel an outrageous 4.3% of any annual income that she made that exceeded $1.95 million.
The new court filings revealed that Halle, who was reportedly paid about $10 million per movie, could negotiate and settle for a cap amounting to $4.5 million. This means the maximum amount she needs to provide her baby daddy every year is between $8,000 and $110,000 every month.
The filing was clear, stating, “Halle shall continue to pay Gabriel 4.3% of any income she receives above $1.95 million, and as for additional child support for Nahla; however, any additional payments of child support according to this paragraph shall not exceed $109,650 per year, which is the difference between 4.3% of $1.95 million and $4.5 million.”
Part of the filing also says, “The parties agree that additional child support over and above $109,650 per year would exceed Nahla’s reasonable needs.”
This court victory for Halle comes after a potentially hefty payout this year for two tentative film projects that are currently in progress.
Halle is reportedly filming Out Man from Jersey, an action thriller with Mark Wahlberg, and her Netflix sci-fi movie entitled The Mothership is scheduled to be released later this year.
Assuming that Halle earned $10 million for each movie, she would have had to pay Gabriel an additional $860,000 if the previous agreement were to be followed.
Despite the small win for Halle after reaching the modified agreement and having it rubber-stamped by Michelle Kaazadi, the judge presiding over the case, it appears that Halle still owes Gabriel a massive $288,000 from her earnings for last year. Halle agreed to pay this outstanding amount in monthly installments beginning June 1.
The agreement between Halle and Gabriel is in force until Nahla finishes high school or until she is 19 years old if she is still in school.
Halle and Gabriel started their relationship in 2005, shortly after Halle’s divorce from Eric Benet, her second husband, was finalized. After five years of being together, the two called it quits.
After the breakup, Gabriel was remembered saying about Halle, “She is, and will forever be, one of the most special and beautiful people that I have ever known, and I am certain that we will continue to have only love and respect for one another.”
Back then, the two insisted that they would still be friends and that they would be committed parents. Unfortunately, legal proceedings followed after Halle attempted to relocate to France with their daughter, Nahla, to live with her then-partner but now ex-husband Olivier Martinez.
Halle, best known for her Catwoman role, is now with musician Van Hunt.
