Why Gavin Rossdale And Ex-wife Gwen Stefani Do Not Co-Parent
Gavin Rossdale, in his recent podcast interview with Adrianna Costa on the June 15 episode of her “Not So Hollywood”, opened up about his parenting style being different from that of his ex-wife Gwen Stefani.
The Bush frontman shares three sons, Kingston, 17, Zuma, 14, and Apollo, 9, with the American singer. And when it comes to parenting them, the ex-couples do not follow co-parenting but do their own thing.
Rossdale also gave a reason as to why they had different approaches to raising their boys. He said that he and his ex were two “really different people” and that they both had “opposing views”.
He talked about things going either of the two ways—they could either do everything together, co-parent, and see how that goes, or just parent. Further, he says that they “just parent”.
He said, “We’re really different people. I don’t think there’s much similarity in the way we bring them up but I think that gives them an incredible perspective to then choose which pieces of those two lives they’d like to inherit and move on with and which part of themselves come out of the whole process.”
The 57-year-old musician believes in giving his kids a “wide view of things”, which will help them make up their own minds, like how every individual should. He feels this will help them in the future.
The British rocker and the 53-year-old singer were married for 13 years since 2002. Stefani filed for divorce in 2015 due to “irreconcilable differences.” The two had originally planned to co-parent the boys, but according to previous rumors, the two exes are at odds with each other, which has made it impossible for them to co-parent. And as a result, the kids are the ones suffering.

The ‘Rich Girl’ singer has since found love with fellow The Voice judge Blake Shelton. The two started dating in 2015 and got married in 2021. Blake has taken his job as a stepfather quite seriously.
He previously said, “I feel like my regrets would be, if I stayed on this path, that I am missing out on some more important things in life — and for now, that’s our kids.”
Blake has also previously talked about having a stepfather who was like a father to him and is his inspiration in life to be that kind of stepdad.
During a radio show in February 2021, Blake talked about enjoying every moment. He said, “I’m not gonna lie. I don’t take it so serious that I’m not enjoying this time because I really am. Especially, you know, now that we’re five years into this thing, I can’t imagine my life without these kids now.”
However, Rossdale reportedly feels overshadowed by Blake. Apparently, Gavin is trying very hard to parent alongside Gwen. However, he wants to lay down some ground rules and make it perfectly clear that he is the father of their sons and not Blake.
Rossdale also has a daughter, Daisey Lowe, 34, with Pearl Lowe.
