SZA Opens Up To Fans About Heartbreak And Ex-Boyfriend’s Infidelity
In a candid moment during her recent show at the O2 Arena, SZA shared her personal struggles with the audience. The 33-year-old artist, whose real name is Solána Rowe, revealed that her ex-boyfriend had cheated on her in the very city they were in.
“It was terrible. That’s why I was really sad to come here, but you guys made it so much better. Thank you! This song is about my other trash ex-boyfriend,” SZA told the crowd, as captured in a video obtained by Capital Xtra.
The songstress then proceeded to perform her hit track, Nobody Gets Me, which resonated with her fans and further emphasized her emotional journey.
This isn’t the first time SZA has been open about her relationship struggles. Last month, in an interview with Elle, she disclosed receiving a text from her ex’s father after publicly discussing their breakup during a concert in Portland, Oregon. She expressed her frustration at being blocked by her ex on various platforms, while he spread negative information about her to mutual friends.
“My ex’s father just texted me and was like, ‘My son is really hurt about what you said about him to the crowd.’ You don’t get to block me on everything. Tell our mutual friends terrible things about me like I’m a monster, or whatever the case may be. And then I don’t get to speak my piece in my way. You go do your healing and I’ll do mine,” SZA shared.
The Billy Killy singer also put a bit of her pain in Nobody Gets Me. In a previous interview with Hot 97 in 2022, she shed light on the inspiration behind the 2022 song, clarifying that it delves into the story of her ex-fiancé and the issues that led to their breakup.
“This particular song in entirety is a story about my ex-fiancé and how we went through all these arguments, and we broke up. And when we first broke up, it was like terrible, and I just felt like I was gonna be doomed to be in hell for the rest of my life because nobody understood me the way he did, and nobody motivated me the way he did,” she explained.
While SZA’s heartbreak and personal journey have undoubtedly shaped her music, she acknowledges that not everyone may fully comprehend her experiences. Nevertheless, she remains unapologetic about sharing her truth through her art.
