Robert De Niro’s Grandson, Leandro De Niro Rodriguez, Dead at 19
The grandson of Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro and son of actress Drena De Niro has died as confirmed by the July 2 Instagram post by his mother.
The actress shared a photo on her page and captioned it, “My beautiful sweet angel. I have loved you beyond words or description from the moment I felt you in my belly. You have been my joy my heart and all that was ever pure and real in my life. I wish I was with you right now. I wish I was with you. I don’t know how to live without you but I’ll try to go on and spread the love and light that you so made me feel in getting to be your mama.”
She went on to say how deeply loved and appreciated he was and that she wished that she could have saved him. She further apologized to her dead son and her husband Carlos Mare and wished eternal paradise for her son.
Drena also gave a statement to CBS News in which she expressed her gratitude for the love and support she and her family had received during this period of “inconsolable grief”.
Leandros’s father, artist Carlos Rodriguez, who goes by Carlos Mare, shared a blacked-out image on his Instagram page. He also responded to Drena’s post, writing, “Words aren’t enough to express the joy he gave us or the loss we now endure with our families and friends. He is Godschild now. On this full moon his spirit luminates what could not be seen in the dark. You can’t spell LOVE without LEO.”
Robert De Niro also stated to USA TODAY that he was deeply disturbed by the passing of his beloved grandson Leo. “We’re greatly appreciative of the condolences from everyone. We ask that we please be given privacy to grieve our loss of Leo,” he said.
The New York City Police Department informed CBS News that they went to a building in Lower Manhattan in response to a 911 call. On reaching the location, they found an 18-year-old male unconscious and unresponsive, who was later pronounced dead by the emergency medical services. The man was later identified as De Niro-Rodriguez and the family confirmed his age to be 19.
The police department did not shed any light on the cause of death and only informed that a medical examiner would determine it.
However, Drena shared another Instagram post that read, “To the person who sold Leo, the fentanyl laced drugs that took him away from us I hope every day you will think of me and my family you killed us all.”
De Niro Rodriguez was an actor, like his mother and grandfather. He was seen in several movies including one with her mother, “A Star is Born”. He also worked on other projects like When They See Us, Cabaret Maxime, Mozart in the Jungle, The Intern, and Joy.
