Taylor Swift Empowers Rising Star On Eras Tour With Matching Necklaces, Gayle Reveals, Raving About Blank Space Singer’s Kindness
Taylor Swift is known for her generosity and support of fellow artists, and she’s continuing that trend on her Eras Tour. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Gayle, the talented opening act for the songstress’ shows, revealed that the Grammy-winning singer gifted the entire team with matching gold tag necklaces engraved with the words “The Eras Tour.” Gayle, 19, expressed how much the necklace means to her and the impact Taylor has had on her life.
Gayle opened up about her deep admiration for Taylor, explaining that the acclaimed singer is like a big sister to her. In the music industry, with its many unknowns and stresses, Gayle finds comfort in having Taylor’s support. “She’s been such a light in my life,” the abcdefu singer confessed, appreciating the moments when she can openly discuss her insecurities and fears with the superstar.
Gayle’s journey in music closely mirrors that of her idol. Having moved to Nashville at the age of 10 to pursue a music career, Gayle feels a strong connection to Taylor’s roots in the city. She admires Taylor’s remarkable work ethic and aspires to be as good of a writer and as hardworking as she is. In the interview, Gayle reminisced about attending Taylor’s 2018 Reputation Tour, sitting in the “last row” of the stadium, and dreaming about her own future. Now, as an opening act for the country-pop superstar , Gayle feels incredibly excited and grateful for the opportunity.
Gayle and Taylor’s story began at the Nashville Songwriters Association International Awards, where Gayle performed and the Blankspace singer won the prestigious songwriter-artist of the decade award. To Gayle’s surprise, Taylor approached her and offered congratulations on her success. Gayle describes Taylor as a kind, lovely, and genuinely funny person, praising her sense of humor. In her words: “She’s just such a nice, lovely human, and she’s genuinely one of the funniest people I’ve ever met. Like, she’s so f—ing funny.”
It was during that memorable encounter that Taylor asked Gayle to join her on the Eras Tour as one of the opening acts. Overwhelmed with joy, Gayle vividly recalls Taylor’s reaction when she enthusiastically accepted the invitation. “She was like, ‘Do you open up for people?’” she shared. “And I don’t know what made me say this, but I said, ‘I open up for people who asked me to open up for them.’ And she was like, ‘OK, I’ll call you,’ and I fell to the floor. Like I literally fell to the floor.”
Gayle expressed her gratitude to Taylor for inspiring countless young women in Nashville to pursue songwriting. Looking ahead, she is set to headline her own shows in North America later this year. She also plans to release an album in 2024, with the writing process beginning early next year.
