Lisa Marie Presley’s Cause Of Death: Weight Loss Surgery Complications And Opioids
The cause of the death of music heiress Lisa Marie Presley has been revealed. The 54-year-old daughter of music legend Elvis Presley and Priscilla Presley, died earlier this year in January.
The cause of her death is concluded to be due to a small bowel block caused by a weight-loss surgery that she had had earlier. Surprisingly, opioids were also found in the American songwriter’s system at her passing, as revealed in her autopsy.
Recall that on January 12, Lisa Marie was rushed to the hospital after a cardiac arrest. Back then, the LA County Coroner looking into her case revealed that the cause of death was sequelae.
According to osmosis.org, this is a complication or condition that results from a pre-existing illness, injury, or other trauma to the body. Some sequelae may also arise from a past medical intervention, such as a vaccine, a specific treatment, or surgery.
The bowel block discovered was a strangulated small bowel due to adhesions that developed after stomach stapling or bariatric surgery that Lisa Marie had years before.
In her blood, the toxicology found traces of Oxycodone and another opioid, buprenorphine, used primarily to manage opioid dependence. Hints of the antipsychotic drug Quetiapine were also found, according to the report by TMZ.
Aside from these, the autopsy also confirmed that Lisa Marie had undergone a cosmetic procedure several months before her death, and this was when she was prescribed opioids. Still, the star had a history of overmedicating, with a tendency to retake her medicine because she forgot that she already took them.
Recall that two days before her untimely passing, Lisa Marie attended the 80th Golden Globe Awards in LA with her mom to support the Elvis biopic starring Austin Butler, who portrayed the King of Rock and Roll.
During the red-carpet walk, Lisa Marie looked frail and sometimes had to lean in to support Jerry Schilling, their 81-year-old family friend who attended with them. The mother-daughter duo was very vocal in expressing their support for the biopic done by Baz Luhrmann, as it gave a glimpse of Elvis’ close relationship with his manager, Col. Tom Parker. The portrayal of Austin was also commendable in the film.
Lisa Marie had her daughter Riley and son Benjamin with Danny Keough, her ex-husband, from 1988 to 1994. Unfortunately, Benjamin took his life in 2020, when he was just 27 years old. She then married Michael Lockwood, her then-husband, in 2016, and they share twin daughters, Finley and Harper.
Lisa Marie’s life was always in the limelight and was never easy. It was nothing but tumultuous. She checked into rehab five times due to cocaine and opioid abuse. Then she also had to ensure four failed marriages, one of which was to the one and only Michael Jackson. She then lost her only son to suicide, and she then lost custody of the twins. She also publicly accused her ex-husband of possessing child pornography.
Ten days after Lisa Marie’s death, hundreds of people joined the public memorial in Graceland, Memphis. The memorial was streamed online, and 1.5 million people watched the live stream.
