Gayle’s Reveals Collaborating With Mark Ronson On Barbie Movie Album Was Dream Come True
Grammy-nominated singer, Gayle, is on cloud nine as her dreams are finally turning into reality! At the tender age of 19, she is making waves in the music industry, and her latest achievement is being featured as an artist on the Barbie movie soundtrack, produced by the renowned Mark. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Gayle couldn’t contain her excitement as she shared her experiences and aspirations.
Collaborating with Mark was a dream come true for Gayle as she revealed she had always admired his work and wanted to team up with him. Now, she can proudly say that she’s crossed this milestone off her bucket list. When asked about the opportunity to work on the Barbie movie soundtrack, she exclaimed, “I really always wanted to collaborate with Mark Ronson, so to be able to do that on the Barbie movie is like, f—ing ridiculous.”
Gayle admitted that being asked to contribute to the soundtrack was a pleasant surprise, as she didn’t initially consider herself the type of artist who would fit the Barbie mold. However, when the recording began, she embraced the challenge and poured her heart into the project. According to her, Mark asked her to infuse her unique style into the song, Butterfly by Crazy Town.
“He kind of requested a pop punk, bedroom pop type of song,” she explains, with a hint of excitement. While it was a departure from her usual genre, she was determined to create something magical. After a series of dedicated efforts, the team produced “four or five versions” before they achieved the perfect blend—a “soft combo” of punk and the original, infusing it with a hip-hop vibe.
Having previously opened for Pink and Taylor Swift, Gayle is not resting on her laurels. She’s set her sights on even bigger goals. Her ultimate aspiration is to collaborate with a star-studded ensemble featuring Travis Barker, Machine Gun Kelly, and Avril Lavigne. “That’s dreaming big, big, big,” she said.
But that’s not all on her wish list. Gayle’s future plans include working with other acclaimed artists like Jack Antonoff, Clairo, Beabadoobee, and, of course, the pop sensation Taylor Swift herself. Additionally, she hopes to embark on an international arena tour, make a guest appearance in a movie, compose soundtracks for films or TV shows, just like her mentor Mark, and eventually establish her own publishing company.
“I really want freedom in my life…I just want to be able to kind of do whatever I want,” she revealed candidly.
