Actor Idris Elba Recounts Heroic Act Of Facing Gunman To Protect Woman In The U.S.
In a recent interview with the Daily Mail, London-born actor Idris Elba shared a chilling incident from his time in the U.S. that nearly cost him his life. Idris, who gained fame from his role in the TV series Luther, bravely intervened when he saw a man threatening his girlfriend outside a club.
The scene was tense, with the man yelling and physically attacking his partner, as recounted by Idris. According to the actor, he couldn’t stand by and watch such behavior. Approaching the situation with empathy, he tried to reason with the man, highlighting the beauty of the woman and questioning why he would treat her that way.
However, the situation took a dangerous turn when the man assumed Idris was hitting on his girlfriend. Without hesitation, the man brandished a gun and pointed it directly at Idris’ face.
In that terrifying moment, Idris kept his cool, understanding the gravity of the situation. As he recounted in the interview, he realized negotiation wasn’t the way to handle it; instead, he recognized the need to be cautious about the consequences.
“I remember thinking, ‘Don’t play negotiations like that… Consequences, man,’” he remembered.
The exact time and location of this incident remain unclear, but it serves as a testament to Idris’ courage and willingness to stand up for what is right. Even off the screen, he embodies the spirit of a hero.
Idris’ bravery extends beyond his personal experiences. In his new Apple TV+ drama series, Hijack, he plays a corporate negotiator who fearlessly confronts airplane hijackers. While he may not be afraid of flying, turbulence still unnerves him.
“I’ve never been afraid to fly. But I don’t really love long, long flights. And turbulence is freak,” he stated.
In addition to his remarkable acting career, Idris has faced other life-threatening situations. One of his scars, which he considers the most memorable, stems from a childhood incident when he was three or four years old.
While climbing a jungle gym, he accidentally nicked his left wrist near an artery on a rusty nail. Although it bled profusely, he survived the ordeal, leaving him with a scar that serves as a reminder of his resilience.
“I remember I was fascinated at how white my flesh was, like, ‘Whoa, look at that!’ And I passed out. I survived it. It healed. And I have the scar to prove it,” he stated.
