Ricky Martin Finally Speaks Up About His Divorce From Jwan Josef
Ricky Martin is finally speaking up and sharing some intimate details on what happened during his divorce from 38-year-old Jwan Josef. The news about their divorce was announced last month, and the 51-year-old Livin’ La Vida Loca hitmaker revealed that their decision to go their separate ways was not a recent one. Plenty of thoughts and factors led to their split.
During his interview with Telemundo, Ricky revealed that when the world found out about their separation, he and Jwan had already gone through the grieving process.
The couple married in 2017 and have two kids, 4-year-old Lucia and 3-year-old Renn. Ricky is also a father to 14-year-old twins Matteo and Valentino, who he welcomed in 2008 via surrogacy as a single parent.
In the same interview, Ricky, who rose to fame because of his highly energetic and danceable music, reiterated to the news outlet that he and Jwan will always be a family. Furthermore, he clarified, “We have two children that we are going to raise together, and this is not a recent decision. We have been planning this situation for a long time; it’s pre-pandemic.”
He also wants to stop rumors about any possible bitterness and anger between him and Jwan by confidently explaining that they are both in an amicable relationship. He stated, “We look into each other’s eyes and smile, we hug each other, and we go through the ups and downs, we cry together, and we laugh together.”
The Puerto Rican native admitted that he was with Jwan for seven to eight years. Now, he wants to have a good time and enjoy his life. Ricky wants to take it easy, and yes, he revealed that he sees himself in another relationship in the future.
Although he is not setting a timeline and doesn’t want to put a timeframe on his future, Ricky admitted that he likes being in love and being in a relationship. As a hopeless romantic, he further revealed that he enjoys waking up in the morning to loving kisses, sharing breakfasts with someone, and all the complicity that comes with it.
Ricky shared that the reason behind their divorce is irreconcilable differences. Both agreed to have joint custody of their children. During the same interview, Ricky explained that he and Jwan handled the situation with maturity and respect. Their children never saw them fighting because they would talk and resolve their differences inside their room. They were careful not to have outbursts in front of their kids.
Because of this, Ricky and Jwan find the divorce proceedings easier than they were expecting. In light of what happened, Ricky is proud that they could build something good together, even if it ended up in divorce. He even comically told his ex-husband that they should write a book on how ex-couples should divorce properly because they discovered that it can be done.
Ricky believes that by handling everything with calm and time, they saved each other from more pain because divorce is painful enough. Not adding to the emotional stress makes a lot of difference Ricky added.
Last July, the two shared a joint statement through Instagram about their separation, citing that they had decided to end their marriage with love, respect, and dignity for their children.
