Raven Symoné Admits Getting Breast Reduction and Lipo as a Minor
Disney Channel alum Raven Symoné revealed that even before she reached 18 years old, she already went under the knife for liposuction and two breast reductions.
The star admitted that back then, she felt compelled to do them because of all the body shaming she received as a young actress. During one episode of The Best Podcast Ever with Raven and Miranda, the now 37-year-old actress recalled getting those surgeries to enhance her appearance. Since she was a minor at the time, she had to get parental consent—a requirement that wasn’t difficult to fulfill given that the surgeries were encouraged by her father, Christopher B. Pearman.
During the podcast conversation, the actress shared shocking details that it was her dad who strongly suggested that she should get her breasts reduced. She remembered her father telling her, “Do you don’t feel bad? Is there anything that you want?”
To which the young star replied, “Yeah if I get a lipo, will people stop calling me fat?”
After that conversation, Raven decided to get liposuction. The actress referred to it as a “mess” given her young age and the pain she had to endure. The singer also revealed that she experienced a seizure after her first breast reduction surgery.
Sharing the experience, she said, “I remember waking up and seeing everything, and then I just started to have this dry mouth and couldn’t breathe and went back under.”
Raven admitted that she was not fully satisfied with her first two surgeries. She still felt like her breasts were still too big, especially after she gained weight. This led her to undergo a third breast reduction procedure.
One of the coping mechanisms the Atlanta native adopted was to disassociate herself from reality. Though Raven doesn’t remember much about the seizure, thinking about it still bothers and freaks her out a little.
After all she’s gone through, Raven today believes that her choices were correct. She comically narrates that her “titties” would have reached her ankles if she hadn’t gotten them reduced.
During one of her interviews last year, Raven credited her wife, Miranda Pearman-Maday, for her incredible weight loss journey. The actress revealed that she lost 40 pounds thanks to Miranda’s guidance, love, and excellent cooking skills.
According to Raven, her wife helped her get rid of sugar in her diet. She even described sugar as an addictive drug that she was hooked on.
In 2017, Raven first spoke about the fat-shaming she endured as a child actress. She confessed that she had several mental issues in her youth because of her weight. Raven painfully recalled how she was described as too big to be doing a one-hour-and-a-half concert and that people wondered how she could dance given her size.
Despite the challenges, Raven Symone will always be remembered for her iconic series, That’s So Raven. Though she is best known as a Disney child star, she also appeared on The Cosby Show from 1989 to 1992.
