Cardi B Reveals Why Her Collaboration With Lil’ Kim Remains Elusive
Cardi B recently opened up about why her highly-anticipated collaboration with rap icon Lil’ Kim has yet to materialize. In a candid conversation on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen,” the chart-topping rapper known for her unapologetic style and catchy tunes, shared her thoughts on this exciting potential partnership, offering a glimpse into the music industry’s inner workings.
During the episode that aired on Monday, Cardi, at 30 years old, responded to a fan’s burning question about whether her upcoming album would finally feature a song with Lil’ Kim. Her answer? “I really do want one,” she exclaimed, adding, “I’m going through my songs right now.”
It’s no secret that Cardi and Lil’ Kim share a genuine friendship, but as Cardi herself pointed out, that only raises more questions from their fans. She playfully remarked, “Cuz everybody like — ‘If you guys love each other so much why you guys don’t have a collab,'” highlighting the anticipation surrounding their potential musical union.
Cardi, however, revealed the secret ingredient that has been holding her back from rushing into a collaboration with Lil’ Kim: the desire to create a flawless, unforgettable song. “The thing is that I want us to have such a great, undeniable song because I know people are going to judge it, be so harsh on us. So, it’s like, I wanna make sure that it’s going to be the greatest song!” she explained.
Yet, Cardi’s admiration for Lil’ Kim, now 49, shines through her words. “But I would love, love love love to do a song with Lil Kim,” she confessed. “I love her. She’s the sweetest thing ever. And she’s so cute!”
Cardi, known for her striking fashion sense, was all glammed up in a sexy turquoise gown with a full head of curls for her appearance on WWHL. She also had exciting news for her fans: she is set to perform her new song “Bongos” alongside 28-year-old rap sensation, Megan Thee Stallion, at the MTV Video Music Awards.
This performance, scheduled to air live from the Prudential Center in New Jersey, marks the second time Cardi and Megan have graced the VMA stage together. Their electrifying performance of WAP in 2021 earned them five nominations, including nods for Best Collaboration, Song of the Year, Song of the Summer, Best Hip Hop, and the prestigious Video of the Year award.
As Cardi’s conversation with Andy Cohen continued, she delved into her approach to collaborations with fellow artists. Emphasized the importance of creating the right song for the right artist, avoiding any mismatched vibes, she revealed, “I just gotta make the right song for them because you know what, I wouldn’t want to send someone that I would love to collab with — I think things like too much — a song and then they be like, eh this is not my vibe, and then my feelings will get hurt.”
