Harry and Meghan Are Going Their Separate Ways, At Least Professionally
Harry and Meghan, otherwise known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been admired and bashed because of their constant togetherness. There’s constant hand-holding even in situations that are no longer appropriate. Such was the case when they joined hands at a service that honored Queen Elizabeth II’s passing.
But lately, Prince Harry and his wife don’t seem glued to each other. They have been seen attending engagements on their own. In just over a week, the two have made different public appearances. They were only seen together once—during Beyonce’s concert in Los Angeles last Friday. But it wasn’t just the two of them because Doria, Meghan’s mother, was also with them.
Having separate engagements seems to be the couple’s direction moving forward as they head towards professional separation. Harry’s Invictus Games, his brainchild which involves injured servicemen and women, is meaningful to him. But then again, it is his project, not Meghan’s.
As for Meghan, she teamed up with Ari Emanuel, a super-agent who will help her on her quest to become a global lifestyle influencer with a bit of philanthropy thrown in.
Many might raise their eyebrows and say that working separately is the norm. Most households where both parents work usually entail different industries and companies. While husbands and wives rarely share the same workplace, it was an entirely different setup for the couple because they have monetized their love story and supported the perception that it’s them against the world.
There have been speculations that the two are headed for divorce, but a close friend of the couple revealed that there’s no truth about the two having marital woes. Nonetheless, the separation of their personal brands could still be a financial strategy, especially in light of the fact that they’ve lost a couple of lucrative deals. Considering the lifestyle of the Sussexes, they need to immediately find ways to ensure a steady flow of income with the right people and projects.
According to Nick Ede, a friend of Meghan and an expert in culture and branding, “I’ve spoken to mutual friends, and it’s not true they are divorcing. What is actually happening is they are trying now to undo the damage that was done by the Harry & Meghan documentary and Harry’s autobiographical memoir Spare.” According to Ede, the first step to changing the public perception that they’re a toxic couple is to enable Meghan to veer away from the victim narrative. This includes having independent activities away from Harry “so people can see who she is.”
Nick further explained that Meghan has to move on from being a duchess given that she is seen as the villain in the story—the driving force and reason why Harry abandoned his UK family. The Suits alum also needs to stop hiding and isolating herself in Montecito.
The plan is for Meghan to connect directly with her fans and followers through social media. She needs to let Harry do whatever he is passionate about. Nick strategized that if Harry and Meghan can adopt the approach of The Beckhams, where Victoria and David each have their own thing, then Meghan can potentially earn income as long as she does it without Harry or even mentioning the royal family.
